Hi I'm Jim Katherman

I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I live in Orange County, California and enjoy both the beach and the mountains. My wife and I really like to go and paddle our kayaks in the nearby coastal bay. We raised six children who are all now grown up and are on their own. So, we also travel as much as we can to visit their homes and our grandchildren. And, I have my own business, which is a small CPA firm.

Why I am a Mormon

There are several major factors that helped me to chose to join the Church, when I was in college so many years ago. First, the role and purpose of the Savior Jesus Christ was explained to me in a clear way as I received lessons from the missionaries. For me, clarity is really important, especially since I am an analytical type of person (after all, I am an accountant!). In addition, as I looked at the lives and example of the members that I met, I was always very impressed with their faith and apparent friendliness. These were people that I liked to be around! Lastly, I did read many parts of the Book of Mormon and also read the four Gospels in the New Testament, and then I did pray to Heavenly Father and I received a spiritual answer that joining the Church was “right” to do. It has certainly blessed my life over all the years since then.

How I live my faith

For me, one of the great things about being a member is being able to participate in many ways. Over the years, I have been a Scoutmaster in the Scout Troop with my sons and their friends in the Church, and helped with activities and music for our daughters and their friends too. Later on, I was able to help train other Scoutmasters and help other Scout Troops. More recently, I have served each week with my wife in the Newport Beach, California Temple where we help others to learn about our Heavenly Father's plan of life. And, in the Church, I have been able to help teach Sunday School classes.
