Hi I'm George

I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am an oral and maxillofacial surgion. This profession keeps me quite busy, but in my spare time I love to travel and go backpacking. Scuba and surfing are right up there too. My wonderful wife Carol and I have been married 25 years this summer, and have three wonderful children all going to college.

Why I am a Mormon

At age 18 I was given a choice by my parents, stay home and attend a state university in my home town, or enroll at Brigham Young University. These are the only two options they and I could afford. My mother was a strong member of the LDS Church but my father wanted very little to do with religion. Just to get out of town I decided to attend BYU. As a freshman requirement, I had to take a class studying the Book of Mormon. This was the first time I had ever read the Book of Mormon. During my first semester reading this book, I began having strong spiritual feelings each time I read it. The strong moral lessons taught in the book, about good verses evil, light verses darkness and our Heavenly Father's love for us, spoke strongly to me. I prayed to my Heavenly Father to know whether or not the book was true and recieved a strong witness that it is. Since then I have experienced so many more times, witnesses that the Book of Mormon is true, that Joseph Smith was a prophet and that the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints is led by Christ himself through a prophet. I would encourage anyone seeking the truth to fully investigate the LDS church as the pathway our Heavenly Father has placed on earth at this time to enable us to return to him.

How I live my faith

Being a mormon is not something that you do just on Sunday. It is a way of life. When you become a member of the LDS Church you make covenants with our Heavenly Father. They are promises you make to live your life a certain way and to use your time, talents and whatever means you have to help your family, friends, fellow members of the church and all your fellow man. Each day I try to make a positive influence on all the people I come in contact with as a husband, father, surgeon and neighbor. Giving service to others is how our Heavenly Father often uses us to bless the lives of others.

Do Mormons worship Joseph Smith?

Mormon's do not in any way, shape or form worship Joseph Smith, or for that matter the man called Mormon. We worship only God the Father and His Son Jesus Christ. We are thankful for all the prophets God has sent here to earth, to guide us toward him and righteousness. Joseph Smith was a prophet called to again restore the fullness of the Gospel of Jesus Christ to the earth after years of a "falling away" from the original truths Jesus Christ originally taught. What are some things that tell you there is a God?

Besides the fact that I feel and see the blessings he gives me each day, I always think back on my science classes back in college, and the principle I learned about called "Entropy". I believe it was a law put forth by Sir Isaac Newton that basically states, that all things in nature tend to "decay" from an organized state to a more disorganized state, unless acted upon by some outside or external force. I can't immagine that all the complex life forms that have developed on this planet could have developed from unorganized matter into the intricate chemical, physiological, neurological and physical masterpieces they are without a supreme being designing them and their purposes.
