Hi I'm Cary

I'm a husband...father...cancer survivor...runner...and a Mormon.

About Me

I am the husband of a wonderful wife...of 28 years on our way to forever together. We have five children, two grandchildren and other on the way. I'm a runner...or at least I run. I've completed several marathons. My family is a great support to me as they met me countless times during my training as my personal water stops and cheered me on as I neared the finish line. In a recent marathon, around mile 22, my son yelled out, "Dad!" I'm sure all the dad's looked to the sound, but I found him and we shared a "high five".

Why I am a Mormon

I'm a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, because of a question asked of me many years ago. That question was, "Do you know that Jesus is the Christ?" When I answered "yes" to that question, it was the culmination of several years of study and prayer. After that, everything else fell into place. Why? Because my faith was centered on a loving Heavenly Father and his son, Jesus Christ. It wasn't centered on my mother and father, even though I loved and still do love them dearly. It wasn't based on friends or family. I was raised a life-long member of the church. However, whether we have been a "life-long" member of the Church or a recent convert, if we wish to know if the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is the Lord's restored church we ALL have to find out the same way - by study, pondering, asking in faith in prayer and then acting on the answers that certainly will come. Joseph Smith saw what he said he saw. All he ever claimed was that God and his Son came to him and spoke to him. He never claimed that he was Christ or that someone else was Christ. All he said was that they called him by name (isn't that interesting...they knew his name and they know yours and mine) and that they had a work for him to do. God's authority to act in his name has been given back to man just as he had given it to others recorded in the bible. We have a prophet on the earth today, just like in the days of Noah, Abraham and Moses.

How I live my faith

I have had rich opportunities to serve in many callings in the Church. I love most being a husband and father. I have come to know that there is a special circle of service created as we serve. When we serve, we grow to love those whom we serve and we continue to serve those whom we love. It doesn't matter the type of service, a heartfelt "hello" is as valuable as mowing the neighbor's lawn. This service circle of love continues to grow the more we serve.

What blessings can we receive through the gift of the Holy Ghost?

The Holy Ghost is a revealer of truth. He testifies of the actuality of a loving Heavenly Father and His son, Jesus Christ. He is a comforter. He warms our soul. He brings to our memories truths we need to know or remember to help us on our way back to our heavenly home.  Show more Show less

Why are only some Mormons allowed into temples? Is there something secret going on in Mormon Temples? What goes on in Mormon Temples?

Anyone can go to a temple and vist the temple grounds and almost anyone can qualify to go inside. Just as there are certain requirements to many things in life, like registering to vote, getting a passport, entering a college or trade school, there are certain requirements to entering a temple. We consider temples houses dedicated to the Lord and we reverence them as such. Thus they are holy and sacred to us...not secret.  Show more Show less
