Why I am a Mormon

I am a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints because of the simple truth that this church is the church that Jesus Christ himself reformed the Christian Gospel. I am mixed-race African American and I was denied the truth much of my childhood. I am a member of this church so I can help others learn that the Lord is very busy trying to get the gospel to the world. Being African-American has allowed me to have a deep concern with spreading the gospel to people of African descent. The church answers all the questions I had about Heavenly Father, and put perspective on Jesus Christ as our Savior, I have not had an easy life. I have suffered as a soldier, a drug-addict and several life-changing injuries in my life. My relationship with Jesus (and His church) has provided for me to develop the faith to make it through many of these circumstances I am a single parent who has raised two boys alone, and the gospel has been instrumental to raising my son's with faith in God, and to serve others by modeling the example of the Savior-Jesus Christ.

How I live my faith

I live my faith by living a life of service to my church, my church community, Family History work and sharing the Gospel. I believe as one of the characters in the Book of Mormon (King Benjamin) said: "For behold, if you are caught up in the service of your fellow being, you are only serving your God" My life revolves around my church, and my "Ward Family" I believe that my closest friends should be in my church community. I am currently performing a Service Mission in Salt Lake City in the church Family History Department, assigned to The Joseph Smith Genealogical Library and the Joseph Smith Church History Building. I also serve at the Salt Lake Temple helping people prepare family history information so they can go to the temple. Genealogy is important to me and I have submitted thousands of names to the church and am very active in Temple Attendance and work. I also show my faith by raising my son's within the church. I am a single custodial parent and have raised both of my son's alone. they are my life and I look forward to one day being sealed to them in a LDS Temple.

What is The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints' attitude regarding homosexuality and same sex marriage?

EteU AliYah Spencer
Although the church takes a stand against same-sex attraction, I am a person with many Gay friends. I love all my friends unconditionally. I believe that people with same-sex attraction should have full inclusion as members of the church. That means, that those people must obey the same laws of chastity as heterosexuals, and they must be married to engage in sexual behavior. Our country is becoming increasingly accepting of same-sex marriage and I believe that gay people should have the right to marry (civil marriage). I also believe that there MAY be a point when Heavenly Father will reveal to His prophet that same-sex marriage is acceptable. The history of homosexual behavior varies depending on the culture. I believe, we, as a society can accept homosexuality in ways that more ancient cultures could not. I am a single parent and I know that children can be raised in alternative-parenting lifestyles. I have proven this. I believe that people who are homosexuals can raised children successfully. Show more Show less
