Hi I'm Al

I am an engineer and a scientist, a father and a grandfather. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I grew up in a rural farming and ranching community. I was the first in several generations of our family to finish high school. I went on to receive a BS and MS degree at a major university. I am an engineer and a scientist and have spent my career working in and teaching within those disciplines. My religious understanding is complemented by my training as a scientist and engineer. I have found that as science learns more truth regarding our earth and the universe it has become more harmonious with the religious views of this Church. The processes God used to create this earth and our universe is not inconsistent with the beliefs and doctrine of this Church. In my mind He is the supernal scientist, and engineer with knowledge and understanding reaching far beyond our mortal capacity to comprehend. My life has been rich and rewarding and centered around my testimony of Jesus Christ and his Church, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. My love for Him has caused me to be more mindful of His children which begins with my love for my wife and our five sons. We now have five daughters-in-law and 18 grandchildren. I have been a member of this Church since I was 8 years old and though my dad was not a member at the time and my mother was not actively involved with the Church, I was always drawn to the Church and attended even before my dad joined the Church and my mother became active.

Why I am a Mormon

Though I have always believed in this Church, my belief has been deepened by years of study, prayer, obedience to the principles taught by Jesus Christ. New discoveries of ancient documents, discoveries in science, and technological advancements have simply enhanced that knowledge. Within the bounds of human error in science and engineering, I have found this Gospel to be consistent with the truths found within those disciplines. This Gospel has given me direction during the times of uncertainty displayed in our modern society. It has given me strength and knowledge of who and what to follow on a daily basis. It has provided correctly the guidance and inspiration for rearing children and grandchildren. It has given me hope that with my wife and children we can be a family throughout Eternity if we do our best to follow true principles as taught by the Prophets and Apostles of today.

How I live my faith

I have had numerous experiences over the years within this Church and my community. I have served voluntarily in positions of trust in the Church wherein I was personally responsible for the welfare of others within our religious units which referred to as a Ward or a smaller Branch. I have not only worked as an engineer and scientist, but I have taught at both the University and Secondary levels, sharing my technical experience and scientific understanding with many of our youth. I also coached both basketball and baseball to young men in several places where we lived.
