Hi I'm Lorna

I'm a mother of 6 boys and 1 girl and grandmother of 26 and I have been married to my very best friend for almost 42 years.

About Me

I was born in eastern Canada. My father died when I was three years old and we moved to the west coast where I was raised and joined the church when I was 17. I met my sweetheart at college and we have been married for over 40 years! We have 7 children and 26 grandchildren. I love being out of doors hiking and biking and enjoying Heavenly Father'creations! I love to travel and since most of our children live far away I get to do that a lot! I enjoy meeting new people and experiencing new cultures! I've been able to make some wonderful friends in different countries while serving as a humanitarian missionary in the Dominican Republic and in Romania.

Why I am a Mormon

When I was very young my father died and I wondered where he had gone. I was told he went to heaven and not to worry about the mysteries of the universe. I had a very inquisitive mind and I used to wonder where I had been before I came to this earth. I thought if I tried hard enough to remember I would know where heaven was and what it was like. I would stay awake night after night trying to remember only to fall asleep. I went to a Protestant church each Sunday and was taught about the Holy Trinity and how God was 3 in one. As I listened to the stories from the bible I wondered who Jesus was referring to when he spoke of his Father. Who was he talking to when he prayed or when he was on the cross? Who was speaking at Jesus' baptism? I was confused! I had many questions but after not being able to find any answers I just kept my thoughts in my heart. While I was growing up I asked my mother if she would ever marry again and she said she would if she found someone that didn't smoke or drink. When I was 16 she started dating a Mormon. They eventually got married and my step father was such a wonderful example of a Christian that I wanted to go to his church and find out more. I met the missionaries and started taking the discussions. When they taught me about the Plan of Salvation I immediately recognized the truth. I felt like I had heard all of it before and I just needed someone to tell it to me again. I was so happy to know where I had lived before and my purpose here on earth. I am so grateful for 2 wonderful missionaries who taught me the truth and for a super step father who was brave enough to marry a woman with 2 teenage daughters and really live his religion. I often wonder what my life would have been like without the Gospel. It has truly changed my life!!

How I live my faith

I have tried to live my life the way I was taught by my mother and also by my Heavenly Father and the Savior. To love and serve those around me each day! I tried to teach that to my children when they were young. I think that is the secret to a happy life. To forget yourself and think of others and what you can do for them! That is one of the reasons we are leaving on our third humanitarian mission in just a few weeks. We could sit at home and enjoy our retirement, visit our grandchildren or even travel but serving others is much more rewarding!
