Hi I'm Dylan Barker

I'm a Mormon.

About Me

My name is Dylan Barker. I love the outdoors; snowboarding, hiking, camping, fishing, etc. I served a mission in New Zealand. I loved every minute of it and everyone I served. I have a deep love for the New Zealand culture, people, food (included in culture?) and of course, rugby. I love all sports, especially basketball and football. Family is everything to me. The relationships I have with my Spouse is #1. She is the one who knows me best and will help me become a better man. She helps me get closer to the Lord. I've only been married a short time but have come to love her even more than I could have imagined. I love all of my family and my relationships with each one of them is a crucial aspect of who I am. Family is the most important thing in this world. I'm currently in college and working full-time. I love learning. Especially about science. Learning about the inner workings of our bodies gives me a great feeling of gratitude and awe for our Heavenly Father. When I hear about a new discovery or a new breakthrough that completely turns the world of science on it's head I remember that God knows all and that our knowledge is nothing compared to His.

Why I am a Mormon

I'm a Mormon because I know that it is the Lord's way for us to return to live in His presence. I was blessed to be born into a family that knew this truth and lived it. However, as many teenagers do, I forsook what I had and chose a different path that wasn't in accordance with the Gospel. I could say that I did this for any number of reasons but the simple fact is that we are agents unto ourselves, we have the moral agency to choose for ourselves if we will follow Christ or the devil. Because of my choice to try my best to follow Christ and keep the promises I have made to Him, I have been blessed with knowledge of Him that helps me in every aspect of my life. But the real reason I continue to follow His gospel is because I have been given SO much and any other lifestyle would be ingratitude for all the blessings I have. Knowing where we come from, why we're here and where we're going puts a perspective into your life that no earthly lifestyle or achievement can contend with. Christ is our Savior from death and hell and the devil. He loved us enough to bleed from every pore and to suffer beyond what any mortal could suffer so that we could return to His and Heavenly Father's presence. He has overcome what we cannot. Because He did this, He wants us to come unto Him. That is what amazes me most of all. He has already done everything for us and yet he still just asks us to make a few changes so that He can bless us even more. I testify that He does bless us, He will purify our hearts and change our desire to do evil. He will fill us with His all-consuming peace and love and joy that will literally fill your entire Spirit. I know this because I have experienced it. That is why I'm a Mormon. I've had experiences so sacred that I cannot deny He knows me personally and because He knows me He knows everyone else, too. He will fix what is broken but needs us to do a few simple things first. I know He will. In this gospel, in this church lies that Spirit to heal.

How I live my faith

In my ward I teach the 13 & 14 year old Sunday School class with my wife. We are teaching them from the manual about the different Prophets from Joseph Smith through to Thomas S. Monson. I have learned a lot about myself and about patience trying to get these students to have experiences that I've had but at an even younger age so that they will come to know the Savior and love Him. It's easy when I can get the message from the particular Prophet we teach about because they are powerful messengers for the Lord. They have been guided by the Lord to direct His church here on earth. I am very blessed to have the opportunity each week to teach and learn from the Spirit and from our young friends.
