Hi I'm Gene

I grew up in Idaho and have lived here all of my life except for time in the Army. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

My name is Mel Gene Hansen. I have been a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints all my life. I served from 1962-1964. Married a beautiful lady when I was discharged and have been married to her for 46 years now. I am retired, love being with my wife. She is my best friend. We do everything together. I have served in various church positions during my life time, and have gained a real appreciation for the testimony of the gospel that I have.

Why I am a Mormon

I was born in to a mormon family. My mother and dad taught me the gospel. I really gained an appreciation for the Church when I went into the Army at age 18 and found that all that my parents had taught me was correct. I found out very fast that I didn't want to live like the other men were living. I new that by keeping the commandments and striving to live as I should brought me happiness and peace of mind.  I have been married to the love of my life for almost 46 years now. We have six children, three boys, three girls, we have twenty eight grandchildren, and we love and enjoy all of our family. I worked in construction for over thirty five years as a ready mix concrete salesman.

How I live my faith

I strive hard each day to be honest in all my speech and in all that I do. I feel that being honest is a very good trait and I want to be known as an honest man. I begin and end each day of my life with personal private prayers, I read the scriptures everyday and try hard to keep the commandments. I have made sacred covenants and strive to live up to them.

What is being a Mormon like?

Being a mormon has brought me many blessings and opportunities through my entire life. I have come to know the Savior, Jesus Christ, have seen how His love for me has given my courage to do what is right in times of trials. Being a mormon to me is an honor, not a hardship. It is wonderful to know that being a mormon does set me apart from the rest of the world. I can see how the problems of the world could be solved if only everyone would live the commandments that mormons strive to live. Show more Show less

What is the Mormon lifestyle like? How do Mormons live?

Living the commandments and teachings of the Church is a real blessing to anyone who will strive to live them. It has been a blessing to me and to my family to have the standards of the church to live by. Striving to be honest in all that I do, living the Word of Wisdom not smoking, drinking alcohol, not drinking coffee or tea and eating the goods foods have been a real blessing to my family. Being true to my companion and knowing that she is true to me, has given me great peace of mind and comfort. Living the standards of the church will bless everyones life. It is the best way anyone can live. I am thankful for the commandments and the opportunity to live them. Show more Show less
