Hi I'm Dave

I grew up in Salt Lake City. Now I live in Las Vegas. I play a 12-string guitar. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I'm a student of LIFE. I make lots of mistakes. I enjoy many types of music. Lately, I mostly listen to Christian Rock genre. My favorite book is LES MISERABLES by Victor Hugo. Some of my hobbies are: bowling, video games, chess, and horseshoes. One of my favorite things to do is travel with my best friend Sara. My favorite place in the world (so far) is in the Azores at an island called Flores and the most amazing thing I've seen up close is the Great Wall of China. I work as an academic advisor and I do my best to help students towards their max potential while in college. My grandparents are my heroes!

Why I am a Mormon

In Matthew 7:20 we read that by their fruits you shall know them. Most people I know who are mormons are happy and live solid, honest lives. Growing up, my grandparents and parents, siblings, cousins, aunts and uncles, bishops, scout masters, sunday school teachers, and young men's leaders were my examples and they were active LDS faithful members. Watching their actions strengthened the beginnings of my testimony. I wanted to be happy and keep the light of Christ inside me burning strong. I 'borrowed' the testimony of others until I received my own witness. When I was 19 years old I made the commitment to serve a mission. I left for Bordeaux to share the message of the gospel of Jesus Christ to the French people. When I was on my mission, my testimony grew into to a personal knowledge that this church is true, something I could never and will never go against or deny. I recall being in PAU, France. We were teaching the lessons to a group of 3-4 males who worked for AVIS car rental in Nigeria and were staying in France @ the time for work related training. My companion and I met them on the street and this began an opportunity to teach them more about our church teachings. For the next several weeks we met in the conference room of the hotel they were staying in and began introducing them to the story of our Prophet Joseph Smith and the restoration. During one of these visits we invited our investigators to get on their knees right then and there and ask Heavenly Father if our message was true. We knelt down and I was asked to offer the prayer. As I was praying the Spirit bore witness to me of the truthfulness that Joseph Smith was and is a true prophet of God. My entire body felt on fire. I might compare it this way: If I were a cup and water was poured into me it overflowed out both sides and over the top. Everything to me screamed that this was truth being felt and testified to. I have never felt the spirit stronger than that humble night in France.

How I live my faith

Why do I know that the Atonement is a true and real power to bless us in our lives and wipe away our sins? Because I have sinned. I am a sinner and I require HIS help. I can't do it alone. When I try to live life on my own terms, and let the "natural man" run the show, I don't see a need for a Savior and I inevitably live life of little use to others and I am unhappy. I am much happier when I begin my day in prayer to Heavenly Father and ask HIM to open my eyes and ears to helping someone. I try to do something every single day to lift another human being out of the sea of discouragements into which they might have fallen. In short, I LIVE my faith through specific actions of obedience, kindness, generosity, and honest living.
