Hi I'm Sam

I work in consulting, I love to read, I live to travel and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I love to read. I moved a while back and was surprised to realize that half of what I owned was books. I like basketball and ultimate, I play guitar, and I love reading. I keep a book in my car just in case I have down time. I also love traveling and learning new languages. I finished college a few years ago and moved to China for a year to teach English in a high school. I learned a lot of Chinese and tried to make a difference for my kids education. I currently work at a consulting firm that helps hospitals. I picked the job because I thought I knew I would be happy if I spent a majority of my time doing something that would make a difference. Which I find more and more to be true.

Why I am a Mormon

There are a lot of reasons I made the choice to stay a mormon. The main reason springs from the fact that I understood a long time ago that for me to really commit myself to this church I would have to know for myself if it was what it claimed to be. I studied a lot and I found answers. I found those answers by reading the Bible and the Book of Mormon along with a lot of other books and by spending a lot of time trying to make a difference for other people the way that those books teach us to. I found answers that satisfied my logic and my heart. I found them to such a degree that I can say that God's church is again on the earth, that he has a modern day prophet who speaks like the prophets of old, and that through and amidst all of this he really knows me personally. I know it. I also found a lot of bonuses through my own personal journey. The gospel does a lot for me in terms of discipline and happiness. I'm a better person because of it. I've met a lot of amazing people and I've had a lot of amazing experiences. It's helped connect me to a lot of places in my life where I know I made a difference, like as a missionary in Australia, an English teacher in China, and a dancer in Europe. It's really been an amazing influence in my life to be a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. Like I said earlier though, ultimately I'm a Mormon because I've come to know that there is a God, that he knows me and cares about what happens to me, and that he has a church on earth that I need to be a part of.

How I live my faith

There's a lot of ways I try to live my faith. But there are two main ways I try consistently to live my faith. 1 -- I learned at a young age that everyone is worth something and that they're special and have a purpose. Cheesy I know, but real none the less. Once that clicked it was pretty natural to start trying to look out for people. 2 -- I read a lot and I love it. I spend time reading books that are fun and books that help me be better (not usually mutually exclusive). Maybe a better family member, or a better friend, or a better employee, or a better guitar player. I spend a decent amount of time studying the Bible and the Book of Mormon. They're amazing books that never seem to stop giving me insight into life and what truly makes people happy. What naturally follows is a healthier and happier perspective and a commitment to try to live the way I know I should.
