Hi I'm Jessamin

I am a mother, a wife and an artist. I love chocolate, rainbows, butterflies and helicopter seeds. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

Hello. My name is Jessamin. I am 32 years old. I grew up in a little town in New Mexico. I came from a good home with parents that taught me good principles. When I was about 13, I attended a Baptist Church with a friend. My parents always supported me in my religious efforts. My parents were raised Catholic so we would attend Mass for Christmas and Easter but we were not regular church goers. After High school I went to France on a foreign exchange program for a year where I experienced a wonderful culture and met amazing people. I attended college at New Mexico State University where I was introduced to the church and baptized a member on September 23, 2006! I then transferred to BYU where I graduated with a Bachelor of Arts. I am married to a wonderful husband and I have two beautiful girls, one sweet boy and one more on the way! My family and I now live in beautiful New Mexico. I am so happy to have the opportunity to raise my family in the joy of this gospel. It has blessed us in innumerable ways over the years and I know it will continue to be a blessing to us for all eternity.

Why I am a Mormon

I was invited to attend church with a friend. I had never heard of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints before and I had not heard of Mormons. It was a different experience than what I had previously been used to. There were a lot of new things that I had never been taught before that I had to pray and ask for myself if they were true. I chose to be baptized because I believe that I received an answer to my prayers and my questions. I prayed to know if the Book of Mormon was the word of God. I prayed to know if Joseph Smith was the Lord's prophet called in these latter days. I also prayed to know if the current prophet was the Lord's mouthpiece and if God really did still speak to us through him. The Spirit of God did testify to me of the truthfulness of these things and if these things were true then the decision to be a member of the Church was easy because I knew that it was the Lord's restored church on the earth today and that happiness and infinite blessings were to be found upon living His gospel. I am blessed every day by this decision to be a member of His Church. I can't imagine being a mother and a wife without the guidance that the Church provides me. I hope to someday serve a mission with my husband so that I can share the joy that I have found with others around the world. In the meantime it is important to me to be a light to those around me. It is the purpose of my existence, to share the joy of this gospel with those around me while creating a life of joy for me and my family. I do not know any other way to live life that is more fulfilling than this.

How I live my faith

Membership in the Church to me does not mean just attending church on Sunday. Since I understand all that the Savior has done for me I strive to show my gratitude for Him by living the gospel everyday. I do this by reading my scriptures, praying both day and night and just trying to develop Godly attributes of Charity, Kindness, Patience, and Faith. My husband and I strive to provide our children in a home that can be a haven and a sanctuary from the world. We can keep the spirit in our home by trying to be our best selves, reading and praying together and by spending quality family time with each other. Being active in missionary efforts means a lot to me since I was introduced to the Church and met my husband through missionary efforts. I would not have the life I have today if it were not for someone sharing with me the joy that the gospel brings to them. Serving in the church is also important to me in order to live my faith. I look for opportunities to serve those who are both members of the church and not.

What is the role of the husband and the wife in the family?

Jessamin
The Prophet and the Twelve Apostles of the Church have made a Proclamation titled "The Family: A Proclamation to the World" regarding our beliefs about the role of husband and wife in the family. It states that "Husband and Wife have a solemn responsibility to love and care for each other and for their children... By divine design, fathers are to preside over their families in love and righteousness and are responsible to provide the necessities of life and protection for their families. Mothers are primarily responsible for the nurture of their children. In these sacred responsibilities, fathers and mothers are obligated to help one another as equal partners." As a wife and a mother, I can testify that these roles are sacred and of utmost importance. I believe that women are blessed with an innate nature to nurture. I see this in my little girl who cares for her teddy bear as if it were her own baby. Between the role of the mother and the father, children will be prepared for both family life inside the home and life out in the world and all of the spiritual and temporal needs of the family will be met.
