Hi I'm John

I'm a simple guy trying to do extraordinary things. I am a pioneer for my family. I am a convert. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I'm just a normal, everyday guy. You could pass me on the street and not even notice me at first glance because I may appear just like everyone else. But, when you take a closer look, you'll find that I do stand out. Nelson Mandella once said that we were all meant to shine as children do and there's nothing enlightening about hiding your light. I have tons of interests and hobbies. One of my favorites is to just take walks anywhere my heart will take me. I love helping people when they need it. I love playing sports, mostly volleyball these days. I love serving in my church. I love picking people up when they feel so down. When everything is all said and done, the cover of the book of my life will be plain and simple; but, to those who venture into it's depths will find that the pages inside will be rich with faith, hope, and charity...and worth the read.

Why I am a Mormon

I was born into the Catholic Church, but I didn’t enjoy it. I’ve had instances and bounced around from religion to religion, even going so far as to say that I didn’t believe in God, or that I did believe in God and was indifferent or didn’t care. I lied to myself for a very long time. The one constant in my life has always been Missionaries from the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints stopping me on the streets and sharing a small message with me, or even just asking me if I was okay. That memory has never left me. How great an impression a small thing can make! When I was 25, my heart and soul ached for something to believe in. I was completely tired of not going anywhere in life. I had contemplated many times that my life just wasn’t worth living. That coupled with the passing of my grandmother put me into a position where I felt as low as the dust of the earth. Then, almost instantly, I met a wonderful person in the Church and their brother who had just returned from his mission. They shared the Gospel of Jesus Christ with me, planting seeds into the soil of my heart where previous missionaries had before plowed before, readying it for this exact moment. The seed took and a good plant grew and now I'm seeing the fruits of my faith. I know with absolute surety that the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is the restored Church of Jesus Christ as it had existed back when Christ himself has instituted it; and it is guided by a living prophet, who receives direct revelation from a Living God, even Jesus Christ, our Master and Savior. I know that Jesus Christ is our Savior because He saved me! He fulfilled Heavenly Father's will and descended below all things that He might lift us above all things. The Atonement of Jesus Christ is the most beautiful and loving gift I have ever received, and it has the power to change our very natures. I am a living witness to that fact and we all can be, too!

How I live my faith

I live my faith by trying to be like Jesus Christ. I listen to the counsel he gives me through His appointed servants, and I always strive to do it to the best of my abilities. I'm an imperfect being trying to emulate a truly perfect being. I live my faith, and my life for that matter, by applying and living through the Atonement of the Lord Jesus Christ. I have served as a leader in all of my callings since joining His Church and I sincerely love the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints--and that doesn't mean that I stood above everyone, but I humbled myself to serve them as best as I could in the way that the Savior would have. Living my faith to me is wanting to be active and going to activities like Family Home Evening and being involved in as many wholesome activities as I can. I live my faith by love--love for everyone because everyone has something good to contribute. I live my faith by trusting my unknown future into the hands of an all-knowing Heavenly Father because He's the one directing my life and that's just the way I like it!

What is being a Mormon like?

John
Being a Mormon is like being a gorgeous flower growing in a field full of weeds! That's not to say that everyone is a weed! Just painting a picture in your mind for example. It's a beautiful thing! It's an amazing thing! A miracle even! But, it's also a hard thing. Being a Mormon is living in the world, but not being of it. We don't prescribe to the ever-changing philosophies that surround us on a daily basis. We know who we are. We are sons and daughters of a Heavenly Father who loves us and we love him, and we love him by keeping His commandments always, even if the world decides that those "rules" are old-fashioned and out-of-date. Eternal truths are NEVER out-of-date or style! Being a Mormon is tons of fun! It's amazing how many exciting things and times you can have with the people all around you and not have to be drunk or doing drugs or living the way the world wants you to for you to experience that. Being a Mormon is choosing to stand out from the crowd and letting your light shine and "being a city that is set on a hill that cannot be hid" (Matt 5:14). Being a Mormon is good. Being a Mormon is fun. Being a Mormon is right. Show more Show less

What is the Book of Mormon?

John
The Book of Mormon is one of the most important books on the earth! Can I say it again? The Book of Mormon is one of the most important books on the earth and it WILL change your life for the better! It is divine scripture and another witness of the Savior that he came to the American continent and visited the "other sheep" (John 10:16) of his fold--that they might all be brought together so that there may be one fold and one shepherd. The Book of Mormon is the keystone of our faith and it has the power to answer all of your prayers, if you sincerely ask with faith believing that you shall receive. It is a history of a once great civilization and shows us how prosperity and success come only by keeping the Lord's commandments. The Book of Mormon contains the fulness of the Lord's doctrine and is a standing work of complete truth undiluted by the ever-changing winds of modern and ancient philosophies, which have shifted the thoughts and interpretations of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. The Book of Mormon shows us how to be better people, better sons and daughters, better fathers and mothers, and husbands and wives. It constantly gives us peace and contains many tender mercies of the Father that he bestows upon those who approach His work with sincere faith. It is through the Book of Mormon that I gained a testimony of the Lord's restored Church and the reason why I am a Mormon. I know it. I live it. And I love it! Show more Show less

In whom should we have faith?

John
Jesus Christ is the center of our worship. Our Church bears His sacred name and we act in accordance to uphold the honor and integrity of that name, and that includes setting our whole faith in Him because through Him we can do mighty things, even impossible things. Fatih in Jesus Christ is more than just saying that you believe in Him, it's showing that faith through action because faith without works is dead. We need to have faith in Jesus Christ because we live in a fallen world that from every angle will at some point in our lives try to drag us down into endless depths of misery and woe. Jesus Christ has overcome the world and redeemed us, and so long as we have faith in Him and His mighty works and do His will and keep his commandments that he has given us, we can be lifted from those endless depths of misery and woe and, with the Savior's help, soar to exciting new heights and experience the joy and happiness that awaits for those who love Him.
