Hi I'm Zach.

I like comics, music, art, and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I'm an art student! Art influences everything I do. Earlier this year I discovered that I'd rather starve to death as an artist than do what I had previously been pursuing. I'm interested in doing art for movies or video games (concept art, creature design, environments, 3d modeling, prop building, EVERYTHING!), and am working hard to build skills and a portfolio. I loved playing video games, too, but since changing my major to Illustration I haven't had time to play them like I used to since I'm too busy drawing. I love music, especially progressive metal and hardcore punk. I like the technical instrumentation and heart and soul put in by the artists. I like comics and graphic novels, and would like to try making one sometime in the future as a side project. I like to go to bed early and wake up early.

Why I am a Mormon

I've looked around at many different ideas and philosophies. I grew up in a household where Mormonism was present and practiced actively and with love, but didn't really decide to go to church because I wanted to until I was 14. From then on I really wanted to know for ME and not for my Mom or Dad that the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints was the right thing to do and the actual organization established by God to guide and help us. I knew it had made my parents (both converts to the Church) happy, but I didn't really KNOW. It took several years of constant effort, reading scriptures and trying my best to pray before God let me know with no room for question what it was he wanted me to do. It's given me hope and a purpose, and in many ways has saved my life.

How I live my faith

I go to church on Sunday and try to read scriptures and pray daily. I make it a point to visit the temple once a week. I also have the privilege of teaching classes on Sunday once a month.

Why do Mormon missionaries proselyte?

What we believe and the way we live have made us happy. How could we, as Christians, not share what has brought us closer to God? We don't aim to harass, but merely to teach those who are interested in finding a fuller picture of our purpose on earth.  Show more Show less

What is The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints' attitude regarding homosexuality and same sex marriage?

Jesus taught us to love everyone, sinner or not. We treat everyone as a son or daughter of God, because that's what they are, and God loves them. We do treat marriage between man and woman as sacred and serious so we work hard to protect that. Show more Show less

What is being a Mormon like?

Being a Mormon is like being a normal human in a lot of ways! I go to school, work at a library, watch movies with my sisters and hang out with my friends. Since I know that living a certain way and obeying commandments makes me happy, though, there are things I choose not to do. I don't do drugs or alcohol, I won't have sex until I'm married, that sort of thing. There are also lots of things I DO try to do as a result of my faith: I try to understand and learn from those who are different from me, I try to exercise regularly to maintain a healthy body, I try to gain as much education as possible and go to church on Sunday.
