Hi I'm Parker James Gurney

I'm a passionately engaged film amateur, I have a deep love for music, I am a disciple of Jesus Christ, and I'm a Mormon BAM

About Me

I have always had an interest with film. I look back on my life and see that while growing up I loved to have a camera in my hand and just make cheesy videos. Never had I thought that I could be paid to film or create videos that others could enjoy or learn from. I became seriously engaged in film my senior year of high school and found that I could express myself through a few video clips and some sweet tunes. I quickly became obsessed and had to be involved with it constantly. Through competitions and film festivals I have learned so much and become gradually better. I love looking back and seeing the progression that I have made to the current point in my life. Music has always been something that has had a profound impact on my life. It is amazing to me how simple melody and lyrics can have such a powerful influence over our emotions and the way we look at life. As I have grown up I have been smarter with my choice of music and it has made me a better person. On top of it all I love to enjoy life. This life is meant for happiness. Life is a giant playground full of experiences and opportunities to learn. If you aren't enjoying life, you aren't doing something right.

Why I am a Mormon

Church for quite a long time was something that I never really understood, was just something we did. It never really made an impact on my life until I was in high school looking for something to fill the gaps in my heart and answer the questions that swarmed my mind. I started looking for the purpose of my life. Why was I here? Why wasn't I put somewhere else? What is the purpose of my existence? I could not come up with any answers that were logical and I felt that I was left in the dark to wonder. Life went on and I sought to make my own answers. I became involved with as many activities that I could searching for who I was. Although I found things I enjoyed and things I was good at, they didn't replace the feeling of spiritual amnesia that I was suffering. That summer I caught a glimpse of hope, a glimmer of who I was. The testimony of another pierced my heart and the Holy Ghost jogged my memory and witnessed to me that there was truth behind what I had been taught all my life. I found that the simple truths I had been taught all my life were true and could bring the happiness that I longed for. From that experience I have over the years gained that knowledge that I so desperately longed for. The Gospel of Jesus Christ has had a profound impact on my life and is the very center of what drives me. This glad message is one to be shared and I am committed to do that in whatever means I can.

How I live my faith

I LIVE my Faith. It is the center of my life and everything I do is driven by my knowledge and belief in Jesus Christ. I am currently serving a mission in the West Virginia Charleston Mission to bring others this glad message. My life's goal if I had just one would be to bring as many souls unto Christ as I can. That's part of the great responsibility we have as members of His church, to be saviors, bringing people to the Savior of the World. One individual can have a great impact on those around them, I want to be that individual. In all I do I try to be an example of Jesus Christ.

What is the Atonement of Jesus Christ? Why was it necessary for Jesus Christ to sacrifice His life?

Parker James Gurney
The Atonement of Jesus Christ is what allows us to live with a hope that all the hurt, the unfair, the difficulties of life will be made up and we can go on knowing that a better day is ahead. It is impossible to understand and comprehend exactly what Christ suffered for us. He descended to the deepest despair and was crushed under the weight of the sins of all of God's children, every single one. He suffered and "bled from every pore" in the Garden of Gethsemane from this terrible weight. He was stricken and smitten for us and hung upon the cross on Calvary, there experiencing the same pains for each and every one of us. Willingly He allowed death to take him, having finished what His Father sent Him to accomplish. Risen on the third day, He ascended to his Father and now stands with eternal glory on the right hand of the Father. Because of this single greatest event in the history of the world we may receive a remission of our sins through the process of Repentance. We can be freed from the guilt and shame that are consequence of transgression. Because He lives, we too shall live. Christ performed the greatest act of love and for His sake we should do what is necessary to enable His Atoning power in our lives. Through Faith in Jesus Christ, Repentance, Baptism for the remission of sins by priesthood authority, Receiving the Gift of the Holy Ghost, and enduring throughout our lives, we are cleansed to stand perfect before God through Jesus Christ, the Lamb of God.
