Hi I'm Devin

I grew up in Utah and learned many practices and traditions from my pioneer parents and grandparents. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am father of 8 children. I am a Western cowboy who likes to play basketball and tennis; my wife of 43 years is a Southern Belle who has been a wonderful companion and stay at home mother. While our family was growing, we owned a small retail store in the rural West and each of the children learned to work by my side, stocking groceries and checking out customers. We enjoy the outdoors and now that the family is grown, we often gather for family reunions. We gather and work cattle on our cattle ranch in the west riding horses and 4 wheelers over very rugged terrain. Listening to the coyotes howl at night as we look at the stars gives us perspective of the greatness of God's creations. One of my favorite hobbies is playing the guitar. I especially enjoy singing gospel songs, but also enjoy western cowboy songs. As a youth I served a Spanish Speaking mission in the USA, focused on helping others find happiness by following Jesus Christ. Seven of our children have served missions and it has been a great privilege to encourage their selfless service in Brazil, Romania, Japan, Venezuela, and Peru and witness the lives they have touched. In my youth, I fought forest fires for the US forest Service and truly felt our Creator's love with a bright memory that continues to this day, as I took time to count blessings.

Why I am a Mormon

I am a Mormon because I know that God lives, and that He loves me. I seek to love my Heavenly Father in return, and I know that the path he wants me to follow is obedience to His commandments. I was taught in my youth to keep the commandments of God and I am thankful for goodly parents who raised me and my seven siblings in knowledge of the gospel of Jesus Christ. Following God's commandment to be baptized by one who has the authority was fundamental to my obedience. Making sacred covenants and Receiving the sacred ordinance of Eternal Marriage with my spouse has been a crowning event in my life, leading to much happiness and great joy as we have nurtured precious children born into our family. I truly feel God's love and know His plan for my happiness includes frequent prayer and scripture study. My mother taught me to pray and to listen for answers to prayers. My Father taught me to work and also to serve my fellow man. My father presided over daily family prayer as spiritual leader in our home with my mother by his side, and my wife and I have done the same in our own home. I am convinced that living the law of tithing opens the windows of heaven as promised in Malachi 4:10. My faith has been tested, but I know that paying the Lord one tenth of my increase is wonderful opportunity to show sacrifice and obedience. Besides paying a full 10%, I think it equally important to Give that first and best to the Lord.

How I live my faith

My wife and I kneel by our bedside night and morning united in prayer. We always pray for our children and their families. Sabbath day worship is most important and we renew sacred covenants weekly. Also I attend weekly with my wife in the Temple where we serve and honor fellow saints and forbears. I enjoy volunteering as member of my community's "Tree Committee" and also as member of the Sons of Utah Pioneers. Service to others is a marvelous blessing and I feel it a privilege to give of my time and talents and especially in helping others to learn principles that will allow them to have great lives---to be happy through lives of service and following the Savior, Jesus Christ. I believe in families worshiping together. I also believe families should work together and play together. Truly, to help others find the same joys I have found is a main goal in my life.
