Hi I'm Melynda

I grew up in Wisconsin. I taught first grade for 6 years. I am a wife and a mom of 2. I love music. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I enjoy volleyball, hiking, and exploring recipe blogs for new ideas. I love altering recipes to be healthier, playing the piano and singing, being silly with my family, talking to friends, watching documentaries, and although I rarely do it anymore, playing around with drawing and other art. I student taught in Xi'an, China and developed a love for the people and the food. My husband spent 2 years in Taiwan, so we browse the Asian market sometimes to try the foods he misses. We'd love to go back to that part of the world someday! I'm living my dream of being a stay-at-home mom. I love reading tons of stories with my almost 4-year-old and watching her explore the world and learn all sorts of things! We currently enjoy the babblings of our youngest and his learning to crawl. I don't read as much as I used to, but still enjoy it sometimes. I like novels like Anne of Green Gables or Persuasion. The last few years I've been reading things that will help me with my current stages in life (like On Becoming Babywise, Money Girl's Smart Moves to Grow Rich, and 7 Habits for Highly Effective People and the afore-mentioned recipe blogs).

Why I am a Mormon

I grew up in this church, always believing and hoping it was true. I obeyed commandments I learned at church and home, trusting that my parents and leaders were right: God would help me feel of its truth. Over time, step by step, He did. As I continued to study scripture daily, I felt God's love and understood His doctrines better. I received answers to prayers to my Heavenly Father about problems or questions. I felt in my heart the truth of words I heard at church and from living prophets. These and other witnesses of help me know that I am in Christ’s church, and why I choose to follow Him daily. I feel peace and joy through the good and the bad. I love it!

How I live my faith

I love to help out in my church congregation. I was teaching the 4-year-old Sunday School class and I love singing songs with them and watching them smile as they learn about the world God gave them and how they are children of God. I also like subbing in as the pianist when needed. Before moving to this city I helped the teenage girls in our congregation with lessons and mid-week activities with them. I loved their fun attitudes I enjoyed being with them as well as sharing with them doctrines of the gospel and how they have really improved my life. My goal was to encourage them to live (not just listen to) the gospel and set high goals—to test out for themselves the truth of God’s word so they can feel the same joy I feel. I try to live my faith also by trying to be a Christlike person. I try to be kind, fair and honest, get to know my neighbors and be there for them when they need something, help out, and be a good listener when having a conversation.

What are some things that tell you there is a God?

Melynda
Everything! I must say that nature really does it for me. Plants, animals, humans...all are so complex and work to do what they need to in order to survive. This Earth is the perfect distance from the sun with the perfect combination of elements to support life. It just doesn't seem coincidental to me at all. Also, I know there must be a purpose to what we do here. Also, despite race, culture, or other differences, most humans seem to have an inborn sense of justice, goodness, and a desire to become better than they are. To me this is God-given.
