Hi I'm John

I grew up in Southern Calif. without religion, I found Christ at 18 and the Mormon Church at 26. Wow! What a life so far.

About Me

I am one of six children having 2 brothers and 3 sisters. My wife and I have nine children and 26 grandchildren, and 6 great grandchildren so far. I have been a member of the church since being baptized in1970. While I am retired I stay busy helping my family and friends and working with wood in many ways. My family says I can fix anything. That talent is likely left over from so many years working in the oilfield. I love serving in the church any way and the joy of having my family close for the most part. We enjoy family reunions every other year and it keeps us busy just making all the important date in the grand children's lives. I enjoy drafting, and working in the yard and the garden and the occasional trip with my sweetheart of 50 years.

Why I am a Mormon

We were just sitting at home one evening when the missionaries just knocked on our door. They had missed an appointment down the street and were making good use of their time while getting back to their apartment. I had known a man who was a member of the Mormon church at work. Having been impressed with his manner and friendliness I decided to invite the missionaries in. Over the period of several weeks my wife was converted and was a little hesitant of being baptized before I was ready. However,it was the right thing to do. A month later after some study and long talks with the missionaries I was baptized also. Coming into the church has been a life changing experience for me. My shy nature has given way to an ability to serve others and to teach. We have so much not fit Gospel into our lives, but have fit our lives into the Gospel. I know that God lives and that we are his children. He is an all loving God and wants us to return to his presence. Our earthly existence is an opportunity to learn of him and to keep his commandments. Jesus is the Christ, the redeemer of the world and has suffered both in Gethsemane and on Calvary for my sins as well as the rest of mankind. He loves us more than we can know with our mortal minds. His Gospel has been restored to the earth in these the latter days and the heavens are once again open and there are prophets upon the earth. The Book of Mormon in another, true testament of Jesus Christ and his atoning mission. You have your agency to read it and to investigate the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. I invite you to come and look. It will only add to the truth you already have. It will bless your life and your family in ways you cannot know until you come and look.

How I live my faith

My faith is my life style. I study the scriptures every day and I enjoy speaking to my Heavenly Father on a daily basis. I have served with the youth for many, many years both in Scouting as well as in formal class settings. I have served as a Bishop and shepherd of congregation of several hundred members. I am currently serving on a council with an assignment to teach the members of The Church to share the Gospel with their friends. Ours is the challenge to invite you to come unto Christ. The decision to come is yours. It is a use of your agency or ability to choose. I enjoy the interaction with other leaders and the members as I go about serving and teaching. I hope that if someone were to see me, that they would know by my actions, that I am a disciple of Jesus Christ. It has been my joy to work with the communities in which I have lived in Scouting, in interfaith groups and in planning cultural activities for the community.

What is the Book of Mormon?

It is another testament that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, the Redeemer of the world. It covers His dealings with a group who left Jerusalem about 600 BC. It includes His visit to them after his resurrection. It is the word of God and will lead you back to his presence. It contains many plain and precious truths and makes for an even better understanding of the old and new testaments. Show more Show less

What are some things that tell you there is a God?

The sun comes up every day. It is a joy that never ceases to amaze me. I have held nine new children in my arms, fresh from the presence of my Heavenly Father. Each is a miracle and not just a random happening. To see their minds and bodies grow and develop is an awe inspiring thing. To see the beauty of nature in all its splendid varieties is a constant source of amazement and testimony building as to the existence of God. There is a purpose to our existence here. Finding that and then nurturing it is a source of joy. Show more Show less

How can we increase our faith in Jesus Christ?

Faith is an active thing. We believe something and so we implant it in our lives. As we see the resulting blessings to our lives our faith grows. As we come to accept Jesus Christ as our savior and redeemer and the only way to return to our Heavenly home, we begin to implant his teaching into our lives. As we do, we grow closer to Him and desire to please him even more. Our faith builds upon itself and soon it becomes knowledge. Show more Show less
