Hi I'm Jenny

I've been teaching for nearly 30 years, but for me - it's all about my family! I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I trained as a secondary Maths teacher, but soon realised that I wanted to move out of mainstream teaching. For some years now I have been the Headteacher of a Pupil Referral Unit. I work with teenage parents and vulnerable adolescents. It's a challenging job - I have a curve ball thrown at me every day - but I still love it. My family are so important to me. I've been married to 25 years to my best friend, and my three children continue to be precious and often the source of the deepest joys in my life. I work long hours but love to make time for myself. I read avidly I'm addicted to my e-reader, and I enjoy singing - in groups or choirs.

Why I am a Mormon

I had been a churchgoer throughout my childhood, and had been raised to believe in a God who loved me. When I was twelve, a school friend introduced me to the The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter day Saints and I immediately felt that I had come home. I remember being taught that our lives didn't start on this earth and that we lived with Heavenly Father in a pre-mortal life it made such sense to me. My feelings about the Church deepened when I read the Book of Mormon. That changed everything for me as I knew for myself that I had found something that was good, true and would allow me to find the best me. I'm still working on it! I try to use the scriptures to answer my life questions and generally provide me with day-to-day direction. I couldn't do it on my own; I gain so much from Sunday worship and the opportunities that the church provides me to serve and be served. It's a wonderful, inclusive, supportive community.

How I live my faith

I love challenge, and I'm not afraid of hard work, but sometimes taking risks and putting yourself in position where you have to make hard decisions on a daily basis can overwhelm a person. I have days when momentarily lose confidence or a sense of direction. It is at those times that I lean heavily on the faith that I have developed over the years. I know without a doubt that there is a God in Heaven who is ready and waiting to encourage me I've had many experiences of this type. My faith also helps me to see the things that really matter in this life and strip away some of the dross: money, prestige, material things ... The teachings of the Jesus Christ also give a blueprint for building lasting relationships - eternal relationships that go beyond this life.

What is the Relief Society?

Jenny
The Relief Society is an amazing, worldwide organisation of women. We work together to address one another's temporal needs (that's the 'relief' part) and also to develop spiritually. Being able to learn from women of all backgrounds, ages and experiences is such a blessing to me. We meet together for an hour on Sundays, and then for more informal meetings on weekdays (usually monthly). I believe that women have so much to offer their communities, and a duty to do use their talents to bless others. Show more Show less
