Hi I'm Daniel

I'm from a small town in Idaho, a grad student, father of four and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am a dad of 4 great kids, the husband of a fantastic wife and a graduate student. I love grad school, reading articles, writing, data analysis, and intriguing questions. I love family life because it brings meaning, purpose and balance to my life. My favorite moments are playing with my kids, reading a fascinating article and Friday date nights with my wife.

Why I am a Mormon

When I was a freshman in high school my energetic seminary teacher challenged me to read the Book of Mormon every day. I took that challenge and read a chapter every night until I had finished. The night I finished I knelt down and asked the Lord whether or not this whole thing was true. I felt the Holy Spirit in my heart, it was a peaceful, warm and unmistakable answer to my sincere question. From that point on I knew it was true.

How I live my faith

As a Dad-We have four children and the oldest is 5. These kids are energetic, young and at times intense. I try to live my faith by being patient, kind and interested in each of them. I try to remember how Jesus felt about children and try to feel similarly even when there are dirty diapers, tears, dirt, sticky fingers, tears and fits. As a Husband-Also I try to be a good husband I try to be sure we have some quality time, I listen to her and encourage her in her interests and talents. As a Disciple-I try to pray each day and ask the Lord for something I can do for him. Some errand, some way to help. It doesn't work every day but when I am really listening and willing he shows me some small way I can help someone in need. Through scripture study, prayer and trying to be faithful I seek to be worthy of his guidance through the holy spirit. As a church member-Right now I serve as a counselor to our ward Bishop. Our good bishop looks after about 400 church members in our area which is quite a load along with his heavy responsibilities as a local Doctor. As his counselor I work with the youth group doing scouting projects and young women outings. I love being with the youth. Playing games and chatting with the youth about their interests and plans bring me great joy. I also help in coordinating and conducting our weekly sacrament meetings. It has been so gratifying to watch members prepare talks for our weekly meetings and to feel my own faith grow as I enjoy the opportunity to learn from them.

How can we increase our faith in Jesus Christ?

By choosing to nurture thoughts of belief and confidence in God and by guarding against thoughts that doubt God we increase our faith. The teachings of the Prophet Joseph Smith have been particularly helpful. He taught that our faith grows when we understand who God is and what his character is like. As we come to understand his character for ourselves we can more effectively trust in him. In addition, our faith grows when we simply go to work. Often we over-complicate things or at least over think them. I am pretty confident that most of our problems or concerns in life including those regarding our faith can be resolved with simple uncomplicated work. Go and try it, try praying, try reading the Bible or Book of Mormon, go try meeting the missionaries. Just try it, it will amaze you to see the way opened when you just simply go to work.  Show more Show less
