Hi I'm Alysha Braithwaite

I study Philosophy and Creative Writing. It took me about 19 years to be completely converted. I am a Mormon.

About Me

I love getting to know new people and hear their stories. I have done a lot of work in hospice care and have a special place in my heart for the elderly. I knit, play the guitar, write poetry, and love to read. I was married in the temple to my dear husband on August 6th, 2010. I will be finishing my undergraduate degree soon and moving on to obtain my Masters and PhD in Philosophy.

Why I am a Mormon

Some of my family members are Mormons, my parents were married in the temple but after they were divorced neither of them stayed very active. My grandmother is the most Christ-like person I know and it was because of her prayers that I found my way back home to this beautiful church. Before I became truly converted, however, I was agnostic and experimented with many different views of though and philosophy. I realized that something was missing and I wasn't as happy as I was when I was growing up. This church is the only place where I feel close to Christ and my Heavenly Father, where I am the most happy. Reading the Book of Mormon with sincerity softened my heart and still gives me strength to live the best I can everyday.

How I live my faith

I select the hymns we will sing for the month and lead the music on Sundays in our women's group. It is a privilege for me to share the gift of music with the other women in our ward. "For my soul delighteth in the song of the heart; yea, the song of the righteous is a prayer unto me, and it shall be answered with a blessing upon their heads" Doctrine & Covenants 25:12. I also visit three wonderful women a month, one of whom is blind and needs extra help with shopping and other needs. I take shopping once a month and take her to the temple once a month, it is a blessing to have such a great opportunity to help her in any way that I can because she has such a beautiful spirit.
