Hi I'm Jessi

I'm a graphic designer living the dream in New York City and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I grew up moving from small town to small town all over the U.S. but my favorite place in the world is Anchorage Alaska where I lived for my high-school years—I still miss the snow! I graduated with a degree in graphic design and now I work for Martha Stewart designing cook books and magazines. I love cooking (especially the eating part), listening to my husband play the guitar and watching nerdy sci-fi movies.

Why I am a Mormon

I have been blessed to grow up as a Mormon as my mom did before me. My dad joined before they met so I've always had the gospel in my life. Despite this I've had to figure out if the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints was really what it claimed to be for myself. As a creative person I have this desire to be different and a need to really think for myself. As I've read the Book of Mormon and tested the things it promises I have developed a knowledge of it's truth that has become a central part of who I am. I believe that personal revelation is real and it is the reason I've been successful and happy in my life. Not that things have always been easy, but my life has been good and the gospel has taught me to grow stronger during the hard times. I continue to be fascinated by how much sense the gospel makes and the purpose if gives me every day.

How I live my faith

I was a part of the Young Women's organization as a girl and I'm really excited about the chance I have now to be a leader. Those high-school years are HARD and I'm trying my best to help my girls figure things out for themselves and learn to be guided by the spirit in the important decisions they are making every day.

What do Mormons believe about "eternal life?"

We believe that there is a huge plan to all of this. We are here to learn and to grow. We were learning before this life and being on the earth now is just an continuation of that education. We needed to come to earth to be in a place where good and evil both exist and we are free to choose for ourselves which we want. Our choices here are a test of our ability to follow what is right and prove that we deserve to continue on after this life. Eternal Life is the reward for our successful obedience on this earth. Damnation is literally a stop in this cycle of progression. We will be able to continue to increase in knowledge and power after this life is over if we earn it. We will be able to return to live with God but we will also be able to continue on and to become like him as we progress through the eternities. Show more Show less
