Hi I'm Diane Shumway

I've lived in Kansas, Texas, California, Illinois, and Georgia. I'm a wife, mother, grandmother, teacher, quilter. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am a mother and grandmother that enjoys being with family, quilting, reading, learning, and teaching. I teach high school mathematics and enjoy learning math as well as teaching it. I love learning from my students and get a thrill when they understand and explore new ideas. I have three degrees in mathematics education and curriculum and instruction. I also love being a homemaker. I enjoy setting out seasonal decorations and making seasonal quilts. I love the feel of a clean and well organized home. I enjoy candles that bring a warm scent in my home. I especailly look forward to time with my family at home. We talk, play cards, watch movies, and eat our favorite foods. Fall is my favorite time of the year. My husband and I love the mountains and we always go there in the fall to get apples. I enjoy activities in the moutains such as white water rafting, tubing, hiking, and shopping.

Why I am a Mormon

As a child I loved singing the children's songs at school and at church. The words penetrated my heart and I knew the songs about the Savior, His life, and the scriptures were true. I trusted my teacjers and applied the teachings from their lessons. I prayed when I needed help. At first I was surprised when I felt the answers and promptings of the spirit come. As I grew I came to rely upon the constant and steady Spirit which I felt when I kept the commandments and applied the principle of faith. I continue to live the gospel because I have learned that my joy, happiness, and success has come from learning and living the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

How I live my faith

I have served in leadership and teaching positions to children, youth, and adults in the wards and stakes that I have lived. I visit other women to build friendships and offer support. In the community I live my faith by applying the Savior's teachings to my relationships with neighbors, students, parents and professional peers. Most importantly, I live my faith by applying its principles to my family relationships. I have learned to be more patient, forgiving, kind, and selfless. As a result my husband and I have been married 35 years. We have had many happy as well as challenging times but my love for him continues to grow. My faith has been the foundation of my life and as helped me to raise four wonderful children who are now happily married, raising families, and supporting themselves. Within my family relationships I have learned to sacrifice for the benefit of those I love. As a result I have found great joy and happiness in my life.

Do Mormons only help Mormons?

Diane Shumway
No. As a Mormon and a high school mathematics teacher, I care about all my students. I do not judge them. I believe in them, encourage them, and support them. I work hard to empower all children with the tools in life that will make them happy and point them towards success. Show more Show less
