Hi I'm John

I grew up on a farm in Idaho. I hunt and fish. I'm a Mormon

About Me

Greetings, I'm a middle aged, married man. My wife and I have been married 34 years. We have 4 sons, all are married. We have three grandsons and two granddaughters. I grew up on a farm in rural Idaho. I've spent many years in construction, both as a framer and finish carpenter. I have a bachelors degree in History. I currently work at a University in Facilities Management managing a facilities asset, life cycle database. My family and I like spending time together. We enjoy board games and the good humored banter that an evening together can bring. We are a hunting family, both deer and elk hunting. We spend time shooting clay pigeons and targets with the wide collection of guns we own. I love fishing and like catching even better. A good day off in the summer may finds us doing yard work and chores in the morning, a picnic lunch and a trip to the hills with pistols and shotguns during the day, and fishing in the steams or rivers in the evening. I've learned to work as needed and play when the time is right.

Why I am a Mormon

I learned, at an early age, simple faith in Jesus Christ through the teaching and training I received from my parents. This worked well and helped me decide to serve as a Missionary. While on a Mission, I had many experiences that built upon the faith I learned as a youth. My life has been full of enough challenges to fine tune and try my faith. I believe in a loving, kind, forgiving, and generous Heavenly Father. I believe that Jesus Christ is His only begotten Son and our Savior and Redeemer. I believe the Atonement of Jesus Christ is for us and fixes things such as our sins if we humbly repent. I believe that Prophets and Apostles are on the earth today and govern the affairs of the Lord's Church. I received a testimony of the truthfulness of the Book of Mormon. It was written by ancient Prophets and brought forth in our day by the power of God. I read it daily and it has become my friend and brings me peace and comfort. My experiences in life have taught me that simple, repetitive practices such as prayer, scripture study, and service to others brings us close to the Lord. These beliefs may appear simple to some, but I believe them to be true.

How I live my faith

My wife and I were both raised in families where daily prayer, scripture study and service to others was a way of life. I served a full time, 24 month mission for my Church. I love teaching the simple doctrine of Jesus Christ to others. I've spent years teaching Scout age youth. My wife and I started our family with the same patterns of daily prayer and scripture study and a weekly family evening at home with no outside interruptions where we taught our sons what we believe to be important. Our lives have been full of opportunities to reach out and serve those around us. My wife serves as a Primary teacher in our Ward (local group) where rendering Christ like service is taught and practiced. I currently serve as a youth leader, teaching young men. In our daily family prayers, we ask for opportunities to be of service to others and have learned to respond quickly to feelings and promptings we have. Serving others, even in little things, brings us closer to Christ. Doing simple things on a regular basis, such as prayer and scripture study have enriched our lives greatly.
