Hi I'm Richard Whitaker

I'm a Mormon

About Me

Since I was a little boy, I have loved music and enjoyed singing. My mom was the choir director for most of my growing up years and so I sang in the ward choir. In the summer of 2010, I played Willy Wonka in the musical put on by our local community actors group and had a wonderful time getting to know some really great people who put on a great show. I'm the CFO of the community mental health center in our rural town and that keeps me very busy, but I still have time to work and play games with my family. Family bike rides, walks along the river and dinner outside on the patio are some of my favorite activities.

Why I am a Mormon

Growing up in a strong Mormon family gave me a solid faith in Jesus Christ and a well-founded knowledge of His gospel. I find inspiration in the teachings found in the Bible, the Book of Mormon and all the teachings of God's prophets past and present. With a family of my own, I appreciate every day the strength and unity we gain from a Church focused on helping me and my family make and keep sacred covenants with God.

How I live my faith

I work with the young men in our congregation, ages 12 - 18, including my son. I am also the Scoutmaster of the troop sponsored by our congregation. I enjoy teaching lessons about the Gospel of Jesus Christ on Sundays and assisting with scouting and other activities on Wednesday nights. I am so impressed with these young men and how they live the standards of the Gospel - I think I learn as much or more from the boys as they hopefully are learning from me.
