Hi I'm Starla

I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I'm a wife and a step-mom and am employed outside of the home as a Executive Office Administrator. I have always been a Counselor at heart, and two years ago I obtained a Master's degree in Counseling Psychology. In time I hope to move into a career more related to my field of study. I like to clean and am extremely organized- definitely a neat freak! I am analytical and contemplative, and I LOVE to read. I also like to go walking and have two dachshunds that I enjoy giving my time and attention. I also enjoy trying new recipes and tackling other culinary and domestic challenges and consider myself an Ina Garten-wannabe! ...And I love chips and salsa!

Why I am a Mormon

I have not always been a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, but I have been a member long enough that by living it's principles I have come to understand it's importance and value in my life. You could say that, "I've put it to the test." The Gospel of Jesus Christ gives me direction- long-term on an eternal spectrum. Because of the Gospel of Jesus Christ, spiritually I know where I've come from, the purpose of our mortal existence and the potential of living with our Heavenly Father again after this life is over. The Gospel of Jesus Christ often helps me remember what is important and gives me an eternal perspective. It definitely strengthens my marriage and brings us closer together as a family and causes us to strive for the same goals- that we can be together as a family not only in this life, but through eternity.

How I live my faith

Working outside of the home allows me to work with a variety of people of different faiths and backgrounds which provides ample opportunity to be a positive influence. I work at building morale among my co-workers and being encouraging and uplifting. Although I am not perfect, I work at being a supportive wife to my husband, and an influence for good in my step-daughter's life. (The advanced education in Counseling helps too!) Because I have been a member of the church for most of my life, I have had ample opportunities to serve in various capacities. Currently, I serve as a ward missionary assisting the full-time missionaries in achieving their goals. It is rewarding work to see people discover joy and happiness as they bring their lives closer to Christ. And it brings back many fond memories of my own full-time mission (in Wisconsin)! Within our Woman's organization, I serve as a "visiting teacher," being given the opportunity to visit, support and spiritually uplift and sustain other women. It has it's rewards also, and over the years I have developed valued friendships from this service.
