Hi I'm Melissa

I am a wife, mother, grandmother and I am a Mormon.

About Me

I am a 49 year old woman. I live in Colorado and have 2 children one boy who is grown and on his own. He is married and has an 2 year old daughter. My daughter is 17 and a joy to have around. I am currently enrolled at CTU on line to finish a degree that I started over 20 years ago. I am studying Business Administration with a medical concentration. I love to read mysteries and biographies. I sew, cook, crochet and do all those home making kinds of things. I love being a mommy and a wife. I enjoy traveling and have been blessed to visit some really nice places because my husband was in the US Navy for 20 years. I love seeing the ocean and watching sunsets over the ocean.

Why I am a Mormon

I have been a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints all my life. The reason that I am still here is that I have read the Book of Mormon and received a testimony that this is the Lords church. I know that Joseph Smith was a prophet of God and that he restored the gospel to the earth after many years of apostasy. I know that Thomas S. Monson is a prophet today and that my Heavenly Father loves me.

How I live my faith

I attend church each week with my family. I teach the 5 year olds in my congregation the principles of the gospel, this in turn reinforces my knowledge of the gospel and the truth that I know. I also visit sisters in their home each month to give a message about the gospel and to check on them and make sure that they are doing well. This is also a time to get to know the sisters in my congregation and to become friends with them - we call this visiting teaching. I also look for opportunities in my community to serve. Currently I volunteer at a local food bank preparing food for people who come in and need help to feed their families. I think it is important to always look for ways to give back to others. My Heavenly Father has greatly blessed me and I want to bless others through service to them when ever I can.

What is the Relief Society?

The Relief Society is the largest women's organization. It was organized by Joseph Smith in Nauvoo, Illinois in 1842. The motto of the organization is "Charity never faileth." The purpose of the relief society is to help others, in and out of the church. To strengthen each sister and to show love to each other and support each other during good times and hard times. The relief society also helps each sister learn about the gospel through lessons taught each sunday be one of the sisters. It is a true sisterhood and a wonderful organization to be a part of.   Show more Show less
