Hi I'm Lance Merrill

I started Dads Against Drug Dealers. I did the world's only tandem ski flip. I'm a hang gliding pioneer. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am 57 years old, the father of 5 and grandfather of 4. I have been self-employed for the past 33 years as a contractor. When I was young I was very involved in aerial ski jumping, mountain climbing and hang gliding. I still enjoy climbing and camping with my kids and grandkids. I build climbing walls for commercial organizations. I started a non-profit organization called Dads Against Drug Dealers, after my next to youngest daughter Jani died from a drug over-dose in 2006. I love my family and I am grateful for a personal conviction I have that our lives are eternal.

Why I am a Mormon

After high school I wanted to ski full time. This was before there were people making a living skiing. I worked at night and skied over 160 days during a record winter in the Wasatch. As Spring came I spent days alone in the peaks enjoying the Spring weather. I began to realize that I had just lived what had been my dream for years. There had to be more in life than watching time pass with fun and diversion. I started to read the scriptures and pray. I had to know if there was a God. I have tried to hold the coarse that I started those decades ago. I never had a specific moment or experience that proved intellectually to me the existence of God. But as the dew quietly forms through a night, a knowledge has come to my heart. When my little girl Jani died I did not wonder or hope. I know God lives. He knows and loves me and you. Our spirits are eternal and because of the gift of Gods Son, we can return to dwell in happiness with those we love.

How I live my faith

I love people, especially the youth. I have worked in the Boy Scouts for much of the last 30 years. I speak at DARE assemblies about drugs to schools and try to help in the fight against addiction.  My favorite religious service is serving in a Mormon Temple. There is always a strong feeling of love and caring in the Lord's house. I have served there weekly for the past 14 years.
