Hi I'm Matt

I grew up in the Pacific Northwest, Im in the Army National Guard, Im a family man, and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

Having grown up in the Pacific Northwest, I have developed a great love for the outdoors. I enjoy camping, fishing, canoeing on lazy rivers, and snow skiing I love sports, music to include playing the guitar and when I have time, i love to read a variety of books. I have a degree in Elementary Education. My wife and have a wonderful daughter who is the joy of our lives. I am a Scout Platoon Leader in the Army National Guard and served a 12 month deployment to Iraq. My wife and I are big time "Do It Yourselfers" and enjoy doing projects on our home. Since we dont have cable TV, we love to watch good movies. If we had cable, however, our favorite shows would be The Food Network, HGTV, The History and Discovery Channel and Fox News. Soon I will be starting a business with my best friend, with hopes of gaining the ability to have a farther reach in helping and serving others in need.

Why I am a Mormon

Although I was born into a family that were members of the church, and was baptized when I was 8, I had great spiritual experiences in my life that helped me become truly converted. These experiences acted as a pivot point in my life, or a catalyst to find out who I truly was, and who our Heavenly Father truly is. I have gained a great love for our Savior Jesus Christ, and for my Father in Heaven. I know they love me, and have prepared a plan for me and all of the people who have, do currently and will ever walk the earth to return to live with them again. I know that Joseph Smith was a prophet and translated the Book of Mormon and by reading that book, I have gained an understanding of that plan, and therefore have a perfect road map to follow to my heavenly home. Life is not easy, but having a solid perspective on where I came from, why Im here, where Im going and how to get there makes life happy, full of hope and optimism no matter what the circumstance is.

How I live my faith

This is a daily thing. I believe in doing good to people, in treating others how I would want to be treated. For me, that starts in my home. My wife and daughter are the joy of my life. I try to be the best dad and husband that I can. I think the most important work we can do is in the home, by having a strong family that is firm in the faith. The family is the basic unit of society and so by creating a strong family, I am doing my part in creating a strong society. I answered the call to serve as a full time missionary when I was 20 years old. For 2 years I served faithfully, and worked hard to bring the message of the Lord into peoples lives. Serving in that capacity, totally devoting your life to others and forgetting about yourself, was and will always be a source of rich blessings in my life. While Im not a full time missionary now, I can still serve others, pray for them, and help strengthen them in any way I can.  I hope to one day have a business with my best friend who I met on my mission 13 years ago, where we can extend our reach out to those in need, and continue to serve our brothers and sisters of this world.
