Hi I'm Laura

I' m a stay-at-home Mom of three and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I was born and raised in the suburbs of beautiful Seattle, Washington. After high school I left home to attended college where I studied Biology. I interrupted my studies to serve as a missionary for 1 1/2 years in southern France. My husband and I celebrated our 1 year wedding anniverasary by graduating from college and preparing to move to Chicago, Illinois, where he would attend law school. I worked in a universtiy research laboratory until we were ready to invite children to join the family. We are now the parents of three funny, smart and busy girls. When I have a moment to myself you will find me either reading, baking bread - a hobby inspired by my time in France, learning a new piano piece or planning our next travel adventure.

Why I am a Mormon

I am a Mormon because I believe that, as foretold in the Bible, the true and complete Gospel of Jesus Christ was lost from the earth many many years ago but its restoration also promised. That restoration began almost 200 years ago when God the Father and His Son Jesus Christ appeared to Joseph Smith in response to his prayer to know which church he should join. The answer was that he should none of them because the doctrines and practices of all had become corrupted. Over the next years Joseph was taught and prepared to restore the Church of Jesus Christ to the earth. This is that church. God has always and will always speak to us His children. He speaks to us individually to confirm gospel truth when we hear it and to help guide us in our lives. He has confirmed the truth of this church's founding to me and rejoice that the full blessings of Christ's gospel are available to all today. I am a Mormon also because here I find teachings about God that resonate deep inside me. Here I learn that God is our Father, that we lived with Him before being born on this earth and that our life on earth is part of plan to bring us joy. Not only does this knowledge give me peace and hope for what lies beyond this life but also deep and lasting peace and happiness here and now.

How I live my faith

In my church community a ward or branch depending on size of the congregation I teach the lesson once a month in the weekly women's meeting called Relief Society. I also serve as a Visiting Teacher. Visiting Teachers are assigned to watch over, care for and deliver spiritual messages to a small group of women. As a family we live our faith through church attendance every Sunday, regular family scripture study and prayer and activities that help us create a strong bond. In my personal life I try to live my faith by interacting with others as if the Savior stood beside me - that is, with patience, compassion, and honesty. I also stive to study the scriptures daily and make prayer a regular part of my day. When my children are a little older and in school I hope to volunteer at the local food bank or in some other way increase my efforts to look after those in need.
