Hi I'm Deborah

I'm a Mormon.

About Me

My Bachelor's degree focused on Social work. I worked as a probation officer. My Master's degree focused on Adult Education. Now I do family history research. My other passion is studying artwork that depicts or teaches about Jesus Christ. I also have an old fashioned bike - the kind that you back pedal to stop. I can hardly wait each year for the spring to come so I can get out on my bike.

Why I am a Mormon

As a child I somehow knew that on Sunday I belonged at church. So as my parents and sister slept I would get on my bike and go to the nearest church. Sometimes it was a Lutheran church and sometimes it was the United Church. When I was 9 years old two missionaries came to our house and my mother let them in. After that I started attending the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. It felt right and I knew that this was the right church. So after several months the missionaries asked me if I wanted to be baptized - I said yes. That decision made by a 9 year old girl was the best decision of my life. I remember two things from that day - the faces of the missionaries. One face was very serious and reminds me that this was an important decision. The other face was all smiles - a reminder that this was and continues to be a joyful decision. I have always believed in a Heavenly Father who lives and loves me. His Beloved Son Jesus Christ prepared the way for me to return to live with my eternal family forever. This knowledge is renewed each day through prayer and the guidance of the Spirit in my life. In the gospel of Jesus Christ there is an internal peace that cannot be found anywhere else.

How I live my faith

I live my faith each and every day. I do family history research and I help others to find their families as well. I believe that familes can be together forever and the Heavenly Father loves all His children and has provided the way for each of us to return to live with Him one day. Finding my family is part of the process. The Church is organized so that members help one another. There is a program called "Visiting Teaching" where women visit and encourage one another. "Visiting teaching" has enriched my life. I have been able to become friends with women from varying life sitatutions. I have learned we all have more in common than we know. My life is better because of the women with whom I have associated. I have been able to study artwork of the Saviour and then share what I have learned through classes with the women in my area. This has been a great source of peace in my life as I have come to know the characteristics of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. I have gained a greater undersatnding of the scriptures through this study.

What blessings can we receive through the gift of the Holy Ghost?

The blessings that can come to us through the Gift of the Holy Ghost are many. When I went to school the Holy Ghost would help me remember those things that I had studied. This was a great blessing when I was taking a test. The Holy Ghost has also helped me make decisions. When faced with a choice the Holy Ghost can help you make the best choice for you. The Holy Ghost has also blessed me with a feeling of comfort and peace when my father was diagnosed with cancer and later when he passed away. I am blessed with the guidance of the Holy Ghost as I do Family HIstory research. The Holy Ghost has directed me to the records I need to find a particular person. The world is a often a confusing and complicated place and it is difficult to know the right choice to make - the Holy Ghost helps me each and every day to make the best possible choices. This is a priceless gift that all of Heavenly Father's children can enjoy. This is our Heavenly Father's way of blessing us and helping us on our journey through this mortal life. I am grateful for the blessings of the Holy Ghost in my life and would invite everyone to find these blessings in thier own life. Show more Show less
