Hi I'm Hilary

I am a college student at Utah State University, studying to become an English teacher. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

Right now, my life revolves around my goal to become an effective teacher. I am a full-time student and I also work as a writing tutor. I love my job! I also love swimming, reading, road trips, and music. I spend a lot of time volunteering at schools and with other community outreach projects. I am happiest when I get to work with other people and hear their stories. I was blessed recently to travel to Samoa, where I taught high school students and ran English workshops at a rescue shelter. I count that experience as one of my greatest joys and hope to continue traveling and teaching. In a few months, I will begin full-time missionary service in Melbourne, Australia. I'm very close to my big family - my five sisters are my best friends!

Why I am a Mormon

I have chosen to remain active as a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints because I believe membership in the Church offers the most complete way of being close to God. I believe that God tries to speak to us in many ways, and I know that I can have personal conversations with Him no matter where I am. However, only as a member of the Church do I have access to a fullness of the blessings He desires to give me during this life. Everything we do in the Church is meant to bring individuals and families closer to the Savior. As a member of the Church, I have the blessing of hearing the words of living prophets who help me understand my purpose in this life. I have the blessing of attending the temple and feelings God's spirit there. I have the blessing of The Book of Mormon, which works along with the Bible as another testament of Jesus Christ. I know that because of our membership in the Church and our personal relationships with the Savior, my family has been blessed with a peaceful and loving home. Being a member of the Church continues to provide me with new ways to be close to my Heavenly Father, access my Savior's grace, and to feel his love every day.

How I live my faith

I live my faith by working to develop a relationship with my Savior and living so that I can have His spirit with me. I try to listen to His voice on a daily basis by reading the scriptures, keeping a prayer in my heart, and reaching out to others. I try to see the people around me the way that He would see them so that I can be an instrument in His hands. I believe that my personal relationship with God is strengthened through my relationships with those in my ward family. I attend church each week and serve as a teacher during church meetings. I also participate in church activities and service projects during the week. Participation in the church is important to me because I believe that God usually meets our needs through other people. Serving through the church allows me to participate in God's miracles daily. My religion plays a part in every aspect of my life. I look to my Savior daily for help in my schoolwork, my job, and my relationships.

What do Mormons believe concerning the doctrine of grace?

Members of the Church believe that we are saved through Christ. I know that I can only be saved by Christ's grace, and I rely on His grace daily. We believe that we are saved by grace "after all we can do." I believe that "all I can do" is to strive live in harmony with Christ and rely on Him to guide me. As I turn to Him each day, I am blessed with the enabling power that comes from His Atonement. Jesus Christ is the object of my faith and the center of my works, and He is my Savior.
