Hi I'm Debi

I love life, love being married, love being a mother and grandmother of a large family and I love being a Mormon!

About Me

I love being a woman, a wife for 36 years to my best friend, a mother of 9 and gramma Debi to 18 (so far!) My first and foremost hobby is anything to do with my family. I enjoy having my family around me and we find any excuse to hang out together, but our favorite times are probably spent at the beach. I love to travel. Despite raising a large family, we have always enjoyed taking vacations every year of our marriage. We have tent camped a lot as a family, but somehow we have also managed to travel to many wonderful places all around the world. I enjoy seeing this beautiful world and it's people. I love learning. I love taking ameteur photographs and writing about things in life to help keep our big family connected through our family blog. We live near the ocean so we have spent many wonderful times riding bicylces along the beach, camping at the beach etc. My husband has loved surfing since his teens, and so our children have all learned to surf. We just added a two person ocean kayak to the fun and we also love to rent sailboats so my husband can sail us out to nearby islands where we hike and explore. I enjoy working in my yard, especially planting vegetables and flowers. I enjoy walking and playing frisbee with our Labrador. I enjoy yoga and study nutrition. My husband and I continue to excercise together. We walked a marathon a few years ago, have participated in annual 5K and 10K runs. We are not fast, but we keep moving and hope to for years to come.

Why I am a Mormon

I was fortunate to have been born through goodly parents, grandparents and great-great-great grandparents who heard the restored gospel message in far away lands from missionaries. Many of them desired to join with other Saints who believed as they did and so they came across oceans and traveled by foot across the plains of the United States to help settle Utah, Arizona and even some colonies in Mexico. Because of their conversions and their examples, my life was blessed as a member of the Church of Jesus Christ from my birth. Although I had these good examples to follow, I gained my own testimony of the truthfulness of the restored gospel at an early age through the Holy Spirit burning within me. I was excited and happy to be baptized when I turned 8 years old. Just 2 years before, I had a brother and a sister die at ages 3 and 5 years from a hereditary disease called Cystic Fibrosis. Because my parents had been married in one of the Lord's Holy Temples, our family had the promise of being sealed together for all eternity. I knew that we have a loving Heavenly Father that sent each one of us to this earth as part of His great plan, to let us gain our bodies, go through lifes experiences and walk by faith until we returned to Him again. This testimony came to me early in life and has been my guide always. It helped me through my teen and young adult years to live a moral life, stay away from harmful drugs and subtances. I married a wonderful young man who believed the same and we have brought 9 wonderful children into the world. I know being a Mormon blesses families. We have always prayed as a familiy, read our scriptures including the Book of Mormon daily, attended church together, held family home evenings each Monday night and strived to follow the living prophet and church leaders. These are the small and simple things that make us happy in this life and we look forward to returning to our Father in Heaven in the next life, as eternal families.

How I live my faith

I have had many opportunties as a member of the Church to serve in callings and assignments over the years. I mostly have had chances to serve the youth and children but have taught classes to the adults at times, also. I was blessed to have piano lessons as a child and enjoy singing, so I have been happy whenever I could use my music talents to serve in the Church. I have been a teacher and leader in the Young Women organization several times, working with girls ages 12-18. I helped plan activities for them such as Youth Conferences, Dances and Young Women Camps. I also had the privilege to teach Early Morning Religion classes for 4 years to high school kids. I loved the knowledge I gained of the scriptures for myself during this time, as I studied and prepared the lesson for the next day. My testimony and love of the Savior Jesus Christ grew greatly during those 4 years. My husband and I served for a year recently as Nursery teachers. This class for the children ages 18 months to 3 years of age is provided each Sunday for 2 hours, not only to play, sing and teach these little ones about our Heavenly Father and Jesus but to allow their parents to attend Sunday School classes themselves. I have also enjoyed the opportunity to serve in the Cub Scout program serving the 8 year old boys. In the Women's organization of the church, each woman is given 3-4 sisters to visit every month and to help build a special relationship with her and to check on her needs often. I have had the same 3 sisters to visit teach in their homes for the past 12 years. One sister just recently had her husband pass away. I felt blessed to be asked by her family to sing at his funeral and I continue to visit in her home regularly to see how she is doing. I have two dear sisters who visit teach me in my own home each month too.  The Church provides a wonderful opportuntiy to serve others. We are all given chances to volunteer our time and talents and it not only helps us grow but blesses others.
