Hi I'm Jon

I love music, I have long hair, I'm a Mormon

About Me

First of all, I am a student. I'm working on my undergrad, hoping to someday become a medical doctor. I love health sciences, it just intrigues me, even though it can be pretty hard... and I haven't even begun the hard stuff yet! Anyways, I love to play sports and just be around and about. Soccer is my favorite thing to play. It's also pretty much the only thing I can do because growing up I messed up my shoulders playing football and wrestling, so even after two surgeries, the ligaments in my shoulder are just too weak and loose to do any kind of contact sport... or closing difficult windows (i dislocated my shoulder closing a window once. (yeah, it's that bad)). I have a passion for music, I love listening to new music. I play the guitar, but don't really consider myself a musician.. I dabble. But I love pretty much any kind of rock and reggae music.

Why I am a Mormon

I was baptized at 8, so I grew up all my life in the church. As I mentioned earlier, I decided to serve a 2 year mission, teaching other people about the Gospel of Jesus Christ. I always had faith that this Gospel was true, but on my mission I quickly realized that I relied heavily on the faith of others. There were many people on my mission who knew a lot more about the scriptures than I did, and some even made me question certain things. But one thing I knew, was that if I "lacked wisdom", God would answer my prayers. So I began to study the scriptures (particularly the Book of Mormon) profusely, and I would plead in every single one of my private prayers to know if the book was true, and if this church was the true church. As I said before, I always felt it was true, but I wanted to be absolutely sure. I was baptized because I knew it was a good thing to do, but I am a Mormon today because I know that God answered my prayers and He did tell me that the Book of Mormon is true and that this is the right path; and He did so in such a way that there is no way I could ever deny it.

How I live my faith

I served as a missionary for 2 years in Chile and absolutely LOVED it. One of the most important things I learned on my mission was how I live my faith. For me, it's not just reading scriptures, praying, going to church, and not doing hoodrat stuff with my friends. To live the Gospel of Jesus Christ is to be constantly striving to be more fully converted. I love in the Bible how Jesus says to Peter that when he is converted, to strengthen his brotheren. Jesus says this to a man who has left everything and followed Christ, who has performed many miracles, and who even walked on water, though only for a moment. Even after all of that, he still wasn't yet "converted". Every day I try to be as Christlike as I can with every person I meet. I have a long way to go before I am even close to being "converted", but as I keep the commandments and repent of my many mistakes, I do feel closer and closer; and best of all, I feel the Lord with me every step of the way.
