Hi I'm Jen

I'm a world traveller. I am Canadian and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I was born and raised in Canada. I have been a member of the church all of my life, but both my parents are converts to the church. Meaning that they both joined the church later in life. I love to travel and have backpacked through Europe, and spent a few months living in China. I love learning and being in places of different cultures. I love to spend my free time reading a good book.

Why I am a Mormon

I am a Mormon because I have felt the spirit confirm to me that it is true. I was born into the church but that does not mean you automatically believe in everything. We all have to "experiment" on it for ourselves. I decided to experiment on it one of the times i was travelling. I was in China, a lot had been going on of course, and for a little bit of time i had become very sick. So i couldn't go and do everything I wanted to do at the time. I don't speak a bit of chinese, and on most days the only thing i could get out was "hello" or "thank you" in chinese. So after awhile of being there I came to feel a bit lonely that other than my best friend who i was with I couldn't communicate with anyone else. Add to that being sick all the time I was completely miserable and alone. Finally one night a thought came to my mind pull out your book of mormon and read it. My thought automatically was "yeah right" I'd only brought that book with me because my mother had asked me to, there was no way i was actually going to read it. But again the prompting came read the scriptures. FInally after fighting the feeling i pulled the scriptures out from the bottom of my back pack. I opened up and began to read from where i had last left off. Almost immediately i felt a warmth that i had not felt for a while, and shortly after that i got on my knees and thanked my Heavenly Father for that peace. I knew right away that the Book of Mormon is the word of God. Another testament of Jesus Christ and I knew then that i was not alone, that my Heavenly Father and my Saviour were both there with me giving me strength. Nothing else can imitate that feeling, so I knew at that moment that the Church of Jesus Christ Of Latter Day Saints really was God's church restored to the earth.

How I live my faith

I live my faith by living what I believe. My faith is an every day thing not just once a week, so I live it by doing my best to serve others, doing the best I can in everything that is asked of me. In the church we recieve something called a "calling" no one is paid to do anything, everything we do is based on our willingness to volunteer. Basically we serve because we love God, and to me that means doing what I can to serve others and just living my life how I know my Saviour would expect me to. I also had the opportunity to serve a full time mission in Nebraska Omaha, where i was able to share the gospel with other people.

How is the Book of Mormon different from the Bible? How did Joseph Smith obtain the “golden plates” or Book of Mormon?

The Book Of Mormon is exactly what it says on the front cover it is "Another Testament Of Jesus Christ" . It is not an add on or a revised version. It is another testament of Jesus Christ. The Book of Mormon contains a record of a people living in the Ancient Americas, it contains the words of their Prophets, and the commandments that God gave them. God commanded the people to keep a record and that is what they did. These records were put on plates of gold and brass and then were handed down from prophet to prophet, until the time came when Moroni the last prophet in the Book of Mormon was commanded by God to hide the plates until a later time. Eventually after about a thousand years or more. Joseph Smith was told where the records were being kept and then through the power of God was able to translate the record. Show more Show less
