Hi I'm Nick Hicken

My favorite two musical groups are Bob Marley and the Wailers and the Mormon Tabernacle Choir, and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I'm 26 years old and am studying accounting and journalism at BYU-Idaho right now and run my own window washing business called "Brighter Outlook." I love both business and writing and aspire to have my own media company some day. Like I said before, I love listening to Bob Marley and have learned a lot from his lyrics. What I listen for the most in music is the message it's trying to get across. To me, not just music but everything carries a message. It's important to me to understand what that message is and what effect it is trying to have.

Why I am a Mormon

During high school I struggled to believe in God and in an after-life because it all sounded too good to be true. Though the question of whether God was real or not was often on my mind, I was afraid to pray and ask God if he was really there. But when I was about 19, I got to the point where I wanted to know whether God was real or not more than anything else. So I started praying and asking him if he was really there. One morning when I prayed, I felt to ask myself "do you hope that it's true?" It was hard to answer that question at first because I was afraid that if I hoped it were true then I would make myself believe it. But after some thought I settled in my mind that of course I hoped it was true. At that moment, I felt a peace come to me that seemed to carry me from my room and from this world. I felt the light of God fill my soul and I envisioned the glory and goodness of God. The best way I can describe what I felt is that it was like floating above the mountains at dawn and seeing the sun rising on the other side for the first time. Every worry I had at that moment was swept away from me and I knew that God was real and perfectly loving. Although I had such a beautiful experience that morning, I still had struggles ahead of me including struggles with addictions. The understanding I've gained about Christ and his atonement through reading the Book of Mormon, has helped me to become free from so many of my addictions. I know that Christ's atonement is real.

How I live my faith

I live my faith by studying the scriptures every morning and keep a study journal where I write what I learned from the Spirit and how I can come closer to being like Christ and closer to achieving my goals. I love talking with people, especially people I feel don't have many people to talk to. I love to be someone who believes in people and finds the truth in what they believe.
