Dave: Mormon.

Hi I'm Dave

About Me

I hit a few rough spots in my life including having many health problems. I have learned a whole lot about my love towards my family. Puting others first and foremost is most important. Gaining knowledge through daily study of the scriptures is a big part of my everyday life. I enjoy bike riding, roller blading as well as skateboarding and jump-roping. I have a passion for all music that uplifts and inspires. I lived in Germany, California, Arizona, Texas, Washington State, Tennessee, Nevada, Texas (again), Idaho, Iowa, and Nebraska. I miss all the friends I've made in each of those states. I feel life is fulfilled and complete when I go out and serve people any way I can. That's why I want to go to college and get my CNA then become an RN. I have gratitude towards my trials and tribulations because they helped to better my standing with God. I know that God is watching out for me every day and that is something that greatly influences the choices I make.

Why I am a Mormon

I am a Mormon because I chose to be. When I was 8, I was preparing to be baptized. I've always known there was something special about church and I knew it was the thing for me. My parents and church teachers have helped me to understand the fundamentals of the Gospel and I know it is right. I can't recall a time in my life when I didn't know the Church was true.

Personal Stories

Which of the Savior’s teachings have influenced you in your life?

Loving one another is the greatest influence for me that the Savior taught us to do. Jesus taught that the first two greatest commandments is to love God and Jesus Christ with all your might, mind and strength, then, love your neighbor as yourself. Everything else falls into place when your apply this in your life. I've grown a great love for all those I have come in contact with and served. I love serving others because I know that "when you are in the service of your fellow beings, you are only in the service of your God." Charity is a great Christlike attribute to attain. We know that "charity is the pure love of Christ" and, above all else, charity never faileth. As we strive to have love and charity throughout our lives, it will become a part of us and our nature to put other's needs above our own.

What is hope and what do you hope for?

Obtaining a hope in something is like having faith. Hope is to believe that good will come after all we can do, and that there are blessings to look forward to. Faith is believing in something that you can't see, which is true. You can have hope for everyday things. Your expectations can be hoped for throughout each day and can bless you with optimism and perseverance. Hope brings to me happiness and helps me to have a good attitude about life. Starting off with praying for hope is best. I have a faith in Jesus Christ and I hope that He will bless me to overcome all my challenges and weaknesses. I hope that one day I will be able to live with God again.

Why do Mormons go on missions?

We are encouraged to serve a mission by a modern-day prophet. A missionaries' purpose is to "invite others to come unto Christ by helping them receive the restored gospel through faith in Jesus Christ and His atonement, repentance, baptism, receiving the gift of the Holy Ghost and enduring to the end." The gospel is to be spread throughout all the earth so that "every nation, kindred, tongue and people" may have an opportunity to hear the wonderful message of the restoration of the gospel. Males at the age of 19 are encouraged to serve two years and women at the age 21 can serve for 18 months. Missionaries are to serve with all their hearts and sacrifice during those most precious and productive times of their lives.

In what ways have your prayers been answered?

My prayers have been answered mostly by thoughts or impressions that come to mind, and through others. The Holy Ghost will give me an impression to do something or, if I keep my ears open, others around me may give me an answer unintentionally. Answers to my prayers have not always come right away but Heavenly Father does answer. God hears and answers every prayer. I know that He is aware of us constently.

Please share your feelings/testimony of the Restoration of the Gospel.

I know God lives and that He loves me. I know He sent His Son, Jesus Christ, to die for me that I might live eternally one day. Heavenly Father blessed us in these days to have the fulness of the everlasting gospel. He makes known the truth of it thru the Holy Ghost. I know God listens to us. He blesses us in many different ways. He blessed me with a family, health, a knowledge of the gospel, and many other things. It's been made known to me that God chose a boy named Joseph Smith to set up this church in which Jesus Christ is the head thereof. The Book of Mormon is a sure witness that Jesus is the Christ. Thomas S. Monson is the current prophet of the world. The priesthood power is once again on the earth. It is the ability to be led, guided and strengthened spiritually. The priesthood is such a blessing as to help the lives of others thru kind acts of service and charitable feelings towards all mankind. This is the true church in which man can be saved thru ordinances such as baptism. I know these things in the name of Jesus Christ, amen.

How has the Book of Mormon brought you closer to God?

The Book of Mormon is definitely one of my favorite books and is the most important book in my life. It has brought me closer to God in several different ways. First, I feel the influence of the Holy Ghost when I read it. The Holy Ghost tells me of things which are true, so I automatically know this book is correct and true. Second, the Doctrine of Christ is contained in the Book of Mormon. I am able to apply faith in Jesus Christ, repentance for my sins, the renewing of covenants each week as I partake of the sacrament, and receiving the guidance of the Holy Spirit. This book helps me to live the way God wants me to live so that I can receive a fulness of joy. I love the Book of Mormon and am grateful for the ancient and modern prophets who compiled this book and made it available for everyone to read and develope a testimony of the Lord Jesus Christ.

Please explain the part prayer plays in your life?

Prayer has been given to every living soul on earth by One who has contol over the universe. Heavenly Father cares for us so much that He has given us the ability to talk to Him. In my life, I experienced that the more I pray, the more my testimony grows. I can recieve divine guidence and even strength to overcome temptation with my prayers. Like our earthly parents, Heavenly Father loves us and is concerned so He is there and is listening. He commands us to pray to Him, so I pray and I feel love towards Him and I know He loves me.

How can your talents and gifts bless others?

The Lord has given us the parable of the talents. As we use our talents, we may receive more. if not, those talents may be lost forever. God blessed each of us with unique talents and abilities. Some talents include music, talking and caring for others. i know that in my family, I have sisters who are very good at art and playing instruments. They may play the piano at church or make drawings at fun activities such as skits. I have a great ability to love and care for others. We have been blessed with these talents to bless the lives of others.

How can we develop greater harmony in our homes?

There is no one way to have harmony in our homes and in our lives. Here's something that has helped me lately. I read over the 3rd chapter in James and found how I can have peace with those I associate with. Being a peace maker brings many blessings as there are some listed in verses 17 and 18 in chapter 3. I find that I am happier when I promote peace and respect the agency of others. I feel a more sincere love and concern for those around me. I know that harmony can be present with one act of kindness, humility at times, and turing away contention at the source.

How I live my faith

I live my faith by applying the doctrines I learned at church and in my home into my everyday life. A scripture I like to review at times, "Man looketh on the outward appearance, but the Lord looketh on the heart." I love applying that scripture into my life. I am a very empathetic person; I talk to a lot of people and help out any way I can. Finding the good in others is what each of us needs to do. That really helps me to love everyone I meet. I try to live my faith to the fullest. I obey the commandments of God as best I can, I heed the council of a modern-day prophet and I follow the promptings of the Spirit. "Church is my life!"-something I realize for myself at times.-but hey, it's true!
