Hi I'm Ryan

I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am a married father of 3. I keep fairly busy with my wife and kids. I am a Clinical Social Worker, so most of my day is spent working with individuals suffering from the effects of mental illness. I also teach an Intro level Sociology course for a local community college. When I am at home some of my favorite things are being outside working around the house, not that I am really that great at anything, I just like being outside. I am recently getting into gardening, and would have to say that this is my new hobby. Within the past two years I have also learned that I enjoy classical literature. I usually read fantasy Lord of the Rings, Harry Potter, but I have found that some of the books I have read have been very inspiring (Les Miserable, To Kill a Mockingbird). I also love watching movies and just spending time with my family.

Why I am a Mormon

I was born into a family who were members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, so I grew up being taught about the church. I attended meetings with my family. We prayed and read scriptures together. It wasn't until I was 18 that I really made the decision that this church was where I needed to be. I was facing some choices regarding where to attend college, and also whether to go on a mission. One of my brothers who had recently returned from a mission challenged me to read the Book of Mormon. It was the first time that I had read by myself. It was also the first time that I ever applied the promise in Moroni 10:3-5 where I prayed to know if the book was true. I felt a feeling, which I have come to recognize as the Holy Ghost, and it was a feeling that seemed to open up my mind so I knew the book was true. As I came to know the Book of Mormon was true, I then developed a Testimony that Joseph Smith was a true prophet. Now, this was a one time experience that helped me to make some important decisions like where to go to school, and also whether to go on a mission; however, I think that the reason I remain a Member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints is because as I have read the scripture, and fulfilled various callings my relationship with my Savior Jesus Christ has increased and I know this is where He wants me to be.

How I live my faith

I try to live my faith in my every day interactions with my family and co-workers. As these are the people that I see most often I try to treat people the way that Jesus would treat them. Service is one of the primary areas that I see myself trying to be more like the Savior. As a husband and father there are endless opportunities for services. I work with many people who struggle with various problems and because of my beliefs I try to view others in a manner that Jesus would, I try to have charity toward them even if they are not the most pleasant to me.
