Hi I'm D.J.

I grew up on a cattle ranch. I'm now a city slicker. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am the youngest of nine children and was raised on a cattle ranch. I miss ranch life and the physical work that it required. To make up for this physical void in my life I have taken up running, weight lifting, and tiling floors as my hobbies. I enjoy sports and believe that the best movies ever made were sports movies. I love to do various sporting activities with my kids, such as snow skiing, shooting hoops on our drive-way or having races in the back yard. I am a college professor and teach college success and study skills courses. I have come to believe that successes whether in college, sports, or life comes as we adhere to the basic fundamentals. I have a good life, a wonderful wife and six beautiful children. I pride myself on being frugal and have come to believe that material things don't make one happy. I find joy in helping others and seeing my children do their best. I am a Mormon.

Why I am a Mormon

Someone once said that "the proof of the pudding is in the eating." This was a principle taught by the Savior throughout the New Testament when he said "by their fruits ye shall know them" and that a "good tree bringeth not forth corrupt fruit." As I've thought about these teachings and examined the fruits of human behavior in the lives of people I encounter, it's quite apparant to see "over time" whether the seeds we sow in life are good or bad. Similarly, as I've studied the teachings found in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, I've also come to see, taste and know that it is good. In John 7, the Savior taught "If any man will do his will, he shall know of the doctrine, whether it be of God, or whether I speak of myself." I guess this is why I'm a Mormon. I've studied and tried to do his will and have come to know from examining over time the fruits of my own life and can tell you that the seed is good.

How I live my faith

In the tenth chapter of the book of Matthew the Savior taught us that "He that findeth his life shall lose it and he that loseth his life for my sake shall find it." I have found as I try to lose myself in the service of others and fulfill my duty to God, that I am most happy and this is when life seems to be the easiest. Similarly, I've found that He can do a much better job of managing my life than I can. When I submit myself to His will, I am very busy but also very at peace. I have found that I never miss out on anything of any value if I will just stick to the straight and narrow path.
