Hi I'm Steve

I'm a New England Yankee, a Vietnam-era veteran and a very happy Mormon.

About Me

I am a husband, dad, grandfather, fly fisherman, family historian and I work as a computer consultant to support all that. My wife and I have been Mormons for almost 40 years. We are now empty-nesters with 6 children, 6 children's spouses, and 16 grandchildren that we can visit whenever we want.

Why I am a Mormon

I had a solid Christian upbringing but began to feel a void during my college years. I wanted to know more about the nature of God and his relevance in modern times. When I heard the teachings of the missionaries, their words were as a familiar voice. Nothing I had come to believe deeply was contradicted but only added to and much has been added in my 40 years since baptism.

How I live my faith

I believe in the power of service. When I have been in positions of Church leadership, I have encouraged the people to serve each other in the Church and in the community. I served in the US Army during the Vietnam war. I have taught public classes on how to do genealogy and am now involved in a community effort to restore an historic cemetery.

Why do Mormons believe in the Bible?

Steve
God has always inspired people to record their experiences. Mormons consider the Bible to be a collection of secular and spiritual writings of people who wanted to leave behind a record of their faith, trials and history. These people were unique in that they were a convenant people of God - some of the descendants of Abraham who was promised that through his seed, his descendants, the peoples of the earth would be blessed. What we know as the Bible today has passed through many hands and parts have been lost but is available to us today by the efforts and often the suffering and sacrifice of many to preserve it. We believe the Bible, the old and new testaments, to be the word of God so far as they are translated correctly and also believe that God can and will continue to bring forth other writings by inspired people to add to the body of scripture.
