Hi I'm Kristen

I'm a wife, mother, and musician. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I enjoy reading, cooking, walking, traveling, photography, playing the piano, singing, and more! I especially love teaching, and I taught music and drama in the public schools for four years before choosing to stay home with my children. Although I periodically miss my life as a full-time teacher, what I traded it in for is so worth it! My life these days consists of library story times, changing diapers, kissing boo-boos, playing games and singing songs with my two kids, keeping a family blog and cooking blog up to date, and being den leader to a local cub scout group. I wouldn't have it any other way.

Why I am a Mormon

Although I was born into the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, I wanted to know for myself that the things I had been taught as a child were true. Throughout my childhood I had little inklings of the spirit of God testifying to me of his love. I can remember one time when I stood to sing with a group of children my own age. We were singing a song about being the Lord's missionaries to bring the world His truth. I felt such a strong feeling come over me - the spirit. This, along with many other similar experiences throughout my teenage years solidified my belief that this was truly the Church of Jesus Christ. I can't think of one particular experience where I just knew. Rather, my testimony of the truthfulness of the "Mormon" church has come one small experience at a time. I can honestly say that I do know that Jesus Christ is the head of this church. That He directs us through a prophet called by God, and as we follow the counsel of our prophet and the teachings of our Savior, we can find joy and happiness in this life, as well as in the life to come. I know the Book of Mormon is the word of God it brings me great peace. There is a power in the Book of Mormon, and I have felt it. It testifies that Jesus is the Christ, and that He is the only way to return to live with our Father in Heaven again. I love my Savior, Jesus Christ, and I know that He loves me. I want to do what is right and to follow His example. I know that the things I learn in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints are the things that will help me to do this. I encourage you to find out for yourself as well - ask Heavenly Father to help you know what is true. I promise He will answer you as He has me.

How I live my faith

I hope that I live my faith in such a way that people know I love my Savior, Jesus Christ, through their interactions with me. Through my attempts at regularly studying the word of God and praying to Him, I try to keep His spirit in my life. This spirit guides me to make correct choices and to do what I believe the Lord desires me to do. My husband and I are also striving to teach our children these principles through family prayer, scripture study, and weekly family home evenings. We attend church as a family every Sunday, and my husband and I both have been given opportunities to serve in the church itself. Currently I'm serving as the Cub Scout den leader for the 8 and 9 year old boys of our congregation. Boy do they keep me on my toes! I also participate by playing the piano for our women's meetings, and by occasionally playing the organ for our Sacrament Meetings - our main worship service. In the past I have had many other opportunities to serve in different capacities, such as working with teenagers, visiting other members of the congregation who need help, and serving a mission for the church. I love being given so many opportunities to serve, and I find that I feel closer to Christ as I participate in this way.

What is the Law of Chastity?

The law of Chastity is a commandment from our Father in Heaven to keep ourselves clean. It is so much more than to not have sexual relations outside of marriage although that's definitely part of it!. To me it's about living the kind of standards in dress, appearance, language, and actions that will keep you in tune with the spirit of God and bring you closer to Christ. Show more Show less

Does The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints endorse political parties?

The Mormon Church does not endorse political parties. In fact, we are encouraged to study out each candidate, think about their platforms, and then pray to make wise choices for our leaders. You will find that there are members of the Mormon Church who belong to just about every political party.   Show more Show less
