Hi I'm Tom

I am a recent college grad who decided to move to Alaska, and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I work full time and am working on my master's degree on the side. My wife and I are proud parents of one child but hope to have more someday. I am a finance person by trade but a carpenter at heart.

Why I am a Mormon

I am a Mormon because of Jesus Christ. I sent a good deal of time when I was young looking for the church that he started. It took me almost 18 years to find it, but I did none the less.

How I live my faith

I serve in my church when necessary and called upon in one way or another to do so but I find that the way that I live my life from day to day truly defines how I live my faith. We, human beings, have to help each other, support each other, and lift each other up. When I see people doing that, I consider them to be people that "live the faith."

Are all Mormons required to serve a mission?

Tom
No, as with everything in the church, people are free to chose what they want to do. Missions are definitely encouraged but not some kind of requirement. Show more Show less

Does The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints endorse political parties?

Tom
No, the church does not endorse political parties. I think one would be surprised to see how many different political views on can find in one LDS congregation. The church encourages people to participate in their communities and form their own opinions. The church does however take stands on moral issues that sometimes arise in the political arena. Why do Mormons believe in the Bible?

Tom
Mormons believe that God has called prophets for many generations. In the Bible, we learn that He called Moses, Noah, and Abraham to name a few. They were messengers that declared God's word to the Jews in what today is called the Middle-East. The Book of Mormon contains writings from messengers that declared the word of God to a different part of the world. We believe in all of those prophets including the ones in the Bible and the Book of Mormon. In fact, my belief in the Book of Mormon strengthens my belief in the bible because they testify of each other. They both declare Christ's gospel. Show more Show less
