Hi I'm Maureen

I'm a wife and mother. I'm interested in everything! I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I grew up in a big city. I was the last of four widely-spaced children. My parents were in their forties when I was born. They had both lived through the depression, so even though our family was financially okay, we children were all raised to be very conscientious about money. I loved school! I like to know the 'why' of things, or how they work, or just learn about ideas that are new to me. I've tried acting, singing, drawing and painting, writing, and building furniture. When doctors are checking me over, I always ask what they are doing and why. When I had an upper GI, I was fascinated by watching the fluoroscope image of my insides and appreciated the doctor's explanation of what I was watching. When I married my husband, we agreed that we would try to live in small towns. We've lived in quite a few and enjoyed them all. We love camping and hiking. My kids have grown up with all kinds of animals in our house. Sometimes they brought them home, sometimes it was my husband's doing. Rabbits, hamsters, dogs. Cats, fish, snakes, tarantulas, lizards, turtles... Now our kids are grown and we're starting on a new phase of our life.

Why I am a Mormon

Because I know the doctrine is true. Simple as that. As far back as I can remember, I've felt its rightness. In high school, I started examining my belief, but no other religion answered as many questions. No other seemed as logical. Even though I already believed, I followed the counsel given by Moroni at the end of the Book of Mormon-- "And when ye shall receive these things, I would exhort you that ye would ask God the Eternal Father,in the name of Christ, if these things are not true and if ye shall ask with a sincere heart, with real intent, having faith in Christ, he will manifest the truth of it unto you, by the power of the Holy Ghost." When I prayed and asked , I received an overwhelming spiritual confirmation, strong enough to bring tears to my eyes. I love that in this church we are counseled to pray and find out for ourselves if what we are taught is true. I love the promises in the Bible to "ask and it shall be given you. Seek, and ye shall find. Knock, and it shall be opened unto you."

How I live my faith

This is such a strange thing to have to stop and think about! My faith completely suffuses my life. I look for solutions to problems in the counsel given in the scriptures. I try to see people as Christ would see them...as my brothers and sisters. When difficulties arise in my life, I remember that if I am faithful, they can be learning experiences for me and that if I look at them from an eternal point of view, they are just momentary disturbances. I am always aware of God's love and watchful presence, ready to help me whenever I call.
