Hi I'm Paul

I'm a Mormon.

About Me

After graduating high school I worked with my dad in a family print shop for over 20 years. I was married in 1980 and have four children. My wife encouraged me to go to college and the last years I worked with my dad I did just that. I was a non traditional student starting college when I was 30. The flexible hours that my father allowed me to work helped me get through college. I earned a BA in Mathematics and went on to get a Masters Degree in Education. For the last 20 years I have been teaching high school mathematics and coaching soccer. I have two married children and one who is engaged. I have two grandchildren.

Why I am a Mormon

I came to be a member of the Lord's church because of my parents. My dad had a college roommate that was LDS and my dad liked the way he lived his life. Years later when the missionaries came to our home my father and mother let them in and listened to their message because of my fathers memory of his college roommate. They converted to the LDS church in 1961 when I was two years old. Of course there came a time when I had to accept the gospel for myself and not just because that is what my parents believe. For me that process began in 1974 when we attended as a family the dedication of the Washington DC Temple. For me this was a spiritual experience that I will not forget. My personal conversion process continued and in late 1977 my testimony of the gospel reached a point where I felt, despite my shyness, I needed to share what I believed with others. I served an LDS Spanish speaking mission to Los Angeles. It was a wonderful experience and I made many friends both in my faith and not in my faith. I have a testimony of the gospel. I am not perfect. But because of what my Savior did for me and every other person that has ever lived or that ever will live, I can correct any errors I make and have the peace of knowing He will forgive me. His Atoning sacrifice for all of us gives me great hope and helps me through the vicissitudes of life. I also know that marriages and families can be eternal as we follow the plan of our Heavenly Father. The knowledge of these things brings peace into my life.

How I live my faith

Living my religion gives me many opportunities to help and serve others. As we serve others we learn that we are serving God. One example of this service was about 20 years ago a damn broke in our area causing some flooding. It happened early in the morning on a Sunday. I still remember going to church at 9:00AM and the leader of our local congregation explained what had occurred. He said we were to go home with our families and all the men and young men were to meet back at the church with shovels and buckets in 30 minutes. We did meet back at the church and all went to the affected community to help our neighbors. We serve Heavenly Father and our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ when we serve our fellow man. I have had many callings in the church and am currently a secretary. I have taught Sunday School classes, youth classes and many other callings. We believe if we are given a calling we should accept that calling and do it to the best of our abilities. I know if we are asked to do something and we feel inadequate, that if we do the best we can the Lord will help us.

Do Mormons worship Joseph Smith?

We don not worship Joseph Smith. We believe he was a prophet and an instrument in the hands of God our Eternal Father and our Lord Jesus Christ in restoring the gospel in its fullness to the earth. We worship God the Eternal Father and the Lord Jesus Christ. It is their church. Show more Show less
