Hi I'm Michael

I'm a charter corps member for Teach for America. I've lived in Germany and Ukraine. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I'm 27 years young, and I'm currently a part of a program called Teach for America, a non-profit organization which seeks to close the achievement gap for students from lower socio-economic backgrounds. I claim So. California as home, though I have lived in Germany and Ukraine for a number of years as an adolescent with my sister, mother and father. I speak German, some French, and little Ukrainian, though I embrace practically all cultures and revel in learning about new traditions or cultural customs. I love sports, including basketball, running, tennis, skiing, volleyball, frisbee and folk dance...Yes, I do consider folk dance a sport. I love playing scrabble with my family when I'm home and I consider myself fortunate to have grown up in a loving household.

Why I am a Mormon

To begin, I am a Mormon because of loving parents, from whom I learned about God and how to be respectful of God's creations and children. I grew up learning the value of prayer and scripture study, and feel blessed to have learned to study from the scriptures at an early age. Still, it was not until my sophomore year of high school, when I was about 17 years young that I decided to engage myself in a quest to find out the validity of the Book of Mormon. I committed to reading the Book of Mormon and praying about it for almost 3 months before feeling from the Holy Ghost that it was true. I continue to study the Book of Mormon, along with the Bible, to better my relationship with God and to serve other people.

How I live my faith

I love telling people that I'm Mormon! I try and live the teachings of Jesus Christ as I study daily from the Book of Mormon: Another Testament of Jesus Christ to accompany the Bible. The Book of Mormon has improved my life and continues to improve my life by strengthening my weaknesses and understanding that God loves all of us and I should too. I currently serve as a leader of missionary work in my local church unit, which allows me to work with full-time missionaries, help members of my church to find joy in sharing our beliefs and to teach new members of the Church, as well as those who are not members of my faith.
