Hi I'm Brent

I love chocolate. I am smarter than a Fifth-Grader. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I'm a college student studying Biochemistry with plans to go to medical school. I currently work disposing of hazardous waste at the University. I speak Spanish and am an uncle of 10 beautiful nieces and nephews. I love reading, swimming and studying.

Why I am a Mormon

I was born into the Church and was baptized when I was 8. I guess I really was hard-hearted growing up, I typically didn't have those big emotional moments when everyone said the Spirit was there and had touched them and told them that it was true. I might have had some, but they passed quickly and I forgot about them. I just stayed with the Church because it made sense to me, everything was explained in a rational way and I went with it. That all changed when I turned 19. I had turned in my papers to do what was expected of me serve a 2 year mission where they assigned me. After I opened my call and saw where I was going to go, I was afraid and knew that I needed to know for certain whether this Church was actually true. For the first time in my life, I prayed expecting an answer to the basic question Was this Church really the true Church and was I worthy to be called as a missionary? My answer was immediate, and if God himself had appeared it would not have made the event any more spectacular than how I felt. The Spirit broke through my tough, hard heart and told me it was true. Now my stubborn heart refuses to let it out. I know that what I felt was a confirmation of the reality of the Restoration and the truth that our Heavenly Father lives and loves us. He has indeed called a prophet to restore the Church named Joseph Smith and today he has called Thomas Monson. I know because he told me.

How I live my faith

For me "living the faith" is serving other people. I try to do all I can to make people feel good about themselves and remember that they are children of a loving Heavenly Father. If I have to make a fool of myself to get them to smile and brighten their day its not a problem. I try to do all I can to remind myself also that I am a son of God and a holder of His priesthood. I pray often, read my scriptures and try to obey the commandments so that I am worthy and able to exercise my priesthood at any time. My faith is all about those around me, and I lose myself in service to them.

What is a “testimony” that Mormons speak of?

A testimony is a basic, simple declaration of personal knowledge. My testimony are the things that I know for certain as revealed to me by the Spirit. My testimony stems from personal revelation and events that have confirmed to me that God does live, Jesus is indeed the Christ, Joseph Smith was the Prophet of the Restoration, the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is the kingdom of God on the Earth today.
