Hi I'm Phil

I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I'm a physican scientist who works in public health. I'm a husband and a dad.

Why I am a Mormon

I am a Mormon because I believe in Jesus Christ and His gospel. I was born in a Mormon family, but that isn't the only reason I believe. I feel in my heart that the message of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saint is true--that Jesus Christ lives and inspires the leaders of this church. I have seen the influence for good that His gospel and the church have had in my life, my family, and in the lives of my friends. I truly believe that the Gospel of Jesus Christ has more power to accomplish good in the world than any other influence.

How I live my faith

Most importantly, I try to be a good dad and set a good example for my kids. I try to be honest at home and at work and to do the right thing whenever a choice is placed before me. In a more official way, I participate in my church by attending meetings, visiting other members of my congregation ward, and by teaching in church and helping to lead our ward's cub scout program.

Do Mormons worship Joseph Smith?

Of course not. We honor Joseph Smith as a prophet in the same way we and others honor Abraham, Moses, or the apostles Peter or Paul. These and many others were great men who were the servants of the Lord, not the Lord himself. Show more Show less

Are Mormons Christians?

Absolutely. I believe that Christ is the son of God, that he sacrificed himself for the sins of the world, and that it is only through him and his grace that we can be saved. To me, that is the essence of being Christian. I have friends and neighbors who feel that Mormon's aren't Christian because we don't believe some things that are set forth in the Nicene Creed--that God is without body, parts, or passions, for example--but this does not diminish our belief in Christ and His grace. Do you really believe there is a prophet like Moses alive today?

I do. Not only does it make sense that God would want to call prophets today as he did in times of old, but each person can listen to the messages of his modern prophet—President Monson—and decide for him or herself whether he is a servant of God. Show more Show less
