Hi I'm Martin Goff

I believe in Christ. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am a father of 5 children. All of them are grown and have left home. Two of them are married. We currently have 2 grand-children! I'm a Software/Database Developer and have been for nearly 20 years. I've loved technology since my mother took me to see watch a rocket launch when I was 2 1/2. I enjoy board games, RPGs/GURPS and online video games (World of Warcraft Silvermoon / Guweide / Shaszren), target shooting and HAM radio (KK4EBS). A native of western Michigan, I've lived in Wisconsin, Texas, Virgina, Arizona, and currently reside in central Florida.

Why I am a Mormon

When I was 20 years old I was searching for hope. It was a very dark and troubling time in my life. I came across a copy of the Book of Mormon. when I read the introduction I thought "this is ridiculous". And as I was setting the book aside, the though occurred to me that maybe this is what I was the answer for which I was searching. So I began to read the First Book of Nephi. I read the first 7 chapters that morning and I knew it was the word of God. And that I had found the hope for which I was looking. That day I vowed that I would never abandon the gift I had been given. I have kept that vow.

How I live my faith

I'm a clerk in my Ward and try to help whenever I can.

Do Mormons only help Mormons?

Martin Goff
No, the entire point of the Savior's parable "The Good Samaritan", is that we should be actively helping any and all we come across, whom we are able to assist. Such service is the essence of discipleship.  Show more Show less

Do Mormons worship Joseph Smith?

Martin Goff
No. Joseph Smith was a prophet of God, nothing more or less for that matter. We would no more worship him than we would Moses or John the Baptist. We honor him as the prophet who ushered in the restoration of the fullness of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. We esteem him the same as Moses, Abraham and Isaiah. Show more Show less

How can we come to know our Father in Heaven?

Martin Goff
To know our Heavenly Father, we must talk with Him. We must learn about Him. This is best done through prayer and paying careful attention to the promptings of the Holy Ghost. When I was in the Missionary Training Center back in 1982, I remember in one Sunday devotional being told that we do not truly qualify for the companionship of the Holy Ghost unless we are praying and reading our scriptures daily. By my own experience read failures, I have found this to be true. Always remember that our Heavenly Father is anxiously waiting for us to reach out to him, so that He may bless us, and we may come to know Him. Show more Show less

Do you really believe there is a prophet like Moses alive today?

Martin Goff
Absolutely! I know there is. I have prayed sincerely, I have listen closely and the Holy Ghost has borne witness to me that it is so. But there is not only one. There are fifteen men alive today whom I know are prophets seers and revelators. Chief among them is Thomas S. Monson. Show more Show less

What is the Book of Mormon?

Martin Goff
The Book of Mormon is a history of God's dealing with the ancient inhabitants of the Americas. It is a small record of the hopes, struggle failures and successes of their lives. It is a testament to the love of God. A proof if you will, that he loves all of His children, everywhere. That He is always there, trying to entice us to reach out to Him, so that He may bless us.
