Hi I'm Emily

I grew up in Oregon. I'm working and earning money so that I can go to school. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I work as a hostess at Applebee's. I'm saving every penny I can so that I can go to school. I want to major in Digital Film and Video, and become an Editor. I love to read books, sing and dance. I also like to write short stories and poems, even though I'm not that great at it. I also love to go clothes shopping whether it's for me or someone else doesn't really matter.

Why I am a Mormon

I, as Nephi in the Book of Mormon, was born of goodly parents who taught me the gospel from a young age. I have always been a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day saints. I have had times throughout my life when I have doubted. Those have caused times of worry and stress, because if this isn't true what is? So I would pray and read the scriptures and my patriarchal blessing once I had it. And I would always have a confirmation that This church really is His church. It is not Mormon's church or Josephs church or President Monson's church. It is the Church of Jesus Christ. That is the simple truth. The truths in this church is why I stay. And the feeling I get in this church surpasses all other churches I've visited.

How I live my faith

My faith is part of my everyday life. It's not just attending 3 hours of meetings on Sunday. I dress modestly, so no strapless dresses for me. I am exposed daily to others swearing, but I try hard not to let those words enter my head and exit my lips. I spend the days trying to do as Jesus would have me do by serving others. But I am nowhere near perfect. I have times when Satan grips his claws into me. I hate those times and I avoid them as I can. I grow closer to my savior by developing the talents he has shown me I have. I sing everyday to show that I appreciate the voice I was given.

Are all Mormons required to serve a mission?

Members are not required to serve missions. Some men and women do not have the opportunity to go on missions and so it would not be fair for it to be required. It is also important that serving a mission is a choice decided on by the individual. Last month I decided I would serve a mission. I am turning in my papers this month and will be able to serve after my 21st birthday in May. After making the decision to serve, I have found my blessings increase as I prepare to serve the Lord in missionary work for 18 months. He has cleared the path that leads to my mission. If the decision to serve was not my own and personal decsion, but rather the command of others, I would not make a good missionary at all. But because I am going voluntarily, I will be better able to represent the Lord and his church no matter where I go. Show more Show less
