Hi I'm Mike

I'm a country boy from a town of 200. I love hunting, fishing, and bein outdoors. And I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I come from a wonderful family of five, with one older brother and three older sisters. Bein the baby of the family I've always felt like I have six parents instead of just two to keep me in line which I'm sure was necessary to raise a kid like me. Nowdays all my siblings are married so including their spouses I have ten people to give me words of wisdom! I grew up on a small two hundred acre farm which has given me a love for the outdoors. Aside from farming my father is also a contractor so I had the chance to work side by side with him and that experience has also given me a love for building. For the last several months I've spent my time sharing the Gospel to the people of Minnnesota as a missionary, and its by far the best decision I've made in my life.

Why I am a Mormon

So for me in all honesty I think alot of the reason I joined the church had to do with me growing up in it. But thats not why I continue to be a mormon. If all I had to ride on was what my parents taught me I would've left the church a long time ago. In every persons life, whether they've grown up in the church or not, you have to find out for yourself if this is really true or not, and for me that assurance took a while and didn't come overnight. I never had the "I read, prayed, and then came my answer" experience like some people do. For me the first time I read the Book of Mormon on my own and prayed about it, I didn't really feel like I received a definite answer. But I decided that I would just lean on faith, move forward with my life, keep the commandments, and continue to do what I had been taught. Through doing that I feel that my answer came over time and at first it was hard to recognize. But as I continued to read, pray, and search for that reassuring comfirmation it came and today I can testify to you that I know this is Christ's church. There is a prophet on the earth today who we can follow that will not lead us astray. The Book of Mormon is an ancient record that testifies of Jesus Christ, and will bring peace to the heart of any human being. I know these things because God has told me that they are true- not because anybody else told me they're true- but because I have received a witness that is more powerful and sacred to me then anything somebody could say to me.

How I live my faith

Currently I serve as a missionary for Jesus Christ in the cold state of Minnesota. Each day I get to go out for nine hours a day inviting people to feel more peace in their life through the message that we share. As missionaries we also have the chance to work closely with members of the church in helping them to invite their friends to hear more about the Gospel. Its an experience I wouldn't trade for the world. Throughout my mission I've been able to see the Lord change people's lives. Its nothing that I've done, but its what the Savior has done that changes everything for them and also for me.

Why don’t Mormons have paid clergy?

One of the biggest things the Savior taught while he was here on earth was the principle of service. How could we serve our fellowmen if we were getting paid for it? Also we know that "the Lord looketh on the heart" and if we were serving for the purpose of getting money our heart wouldn't be in the place that it should be. A King in the Book of Mormon named King Benjamin taught his people that "when you are in the service of your fellow beings, you are only in the service of your God". That wise counsel still applies to Christ's church today and as we serve each other with our hearts in the right place we truly follow the Savior. Show more Show less

Can husband and wife be together forever? Do you believe that families will live together in heaven?

You betcha! For me, heaven wouldn't be heaven without my family there. They're the ones who mean the most to me in my life and with them is where I experience the most joy. The Savior gave the power to seal families together to Peter in the New Testament, and it was later restored through the Prophet Joseph Smith so that our families can be together forever - even after this life. My Grandmother passed away a few years back and I can't tell ya what it means to me to have the knowledge that I will see her again someday. I know we can be with our loved ones forever - it just feels right in my heart. Its really hard for me to describe the comfort I feel knowing that my family has been sealed in the temple. I know someday my parents will die, as will my siblings and me. But as hard as those days will be, its okay because I know we'll be together again. Show more Show less
