Hi I'm Emily Dishong

I am studying chemical engineering. I play the piano. I love people. And, I am a Mormon.

About Me

I am currently serving as a missionary for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. Before this, I attended the University where I studied for 3.5 years towards chemical engineering. I intend on returning to finish my degree when I complete my mission. I have played piano since I was 5 years old. I love to dance. Latin American dances like Salsa, Tango, and Bachata, are my favorite. Anything with a good beat and good words I will dance to. I love people and I love my friends. I like to be inspired and uplifted and I like to help others feel the same way. I love my family!

Why I am a Mormon

I was raised in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. I chose to be baptized when I was 8 years old and received the gift of the Holy Ghost that same day. This gift and decision has blessed my life every day since. I have found that life can be very difficult at times. Some of the ongoing challenges we face may deal with changing and growing in life, but they also may be from your own bad decisions or family members that you love that make bad decisions. Your closest friends and family may have bad health in any form and that makes it hard for you to see them face such challenges. You, yourself, may be the beholder of bad health. Almost all of these things have played into my life, and it has made things very difficult at times. Through all of these challenges and mistakes, I have seen God's hand in my life at every turning point and in every day guiding me through the gift of the Holy Ghost, giving me strength, helping me make better choices and helping me know how to better support those around me. I have no doubt in my mind that He, Heavenly Father, has guided me through the Holy Ghost. I know what I have witnessed in my life and that is that as I have prayed in faith, with a real desire to know what I should do, that He answered me. I cannot confuse those feelings of warmth and clarity with my own. "Ye shall know them by their fruits..." That is how I know these feelings are of God. The things they bring about, if I follow His guidance, are much greater than I could have ever produced on my own. I know that this is the true church of Jesus Christ and that He is the head of His church. I know that He has called a prophet on the earth today to lead and guide His church and that we will continue to have a prophet. I know that Heavenly Father knows me by name. I know that we are all His children. I know that the Book of Mormon is the word of God.

How I live my faith

I love service. I don't have time always to work with a particular organization, but I have volunteered at elementary schools and junior high schools before. I love working with children and being a mentor. I volunteered in a junior high classroom where I helped the children with their reading skills. I believe that reading skills are very important. I have done many service projects where young men and young women (teenagers) from our congregation go out to clean up neighbors yards, serve the homeless, and visit the elderly in the residence homes. All of these experiences provide such great feelings of love towards people and it keeps me looking outward as Christ did and not inward. In the church, I have been blessed with opportunities to teach others as I have given talks to the congregation and been called as a teacher to teach the women in the ward. I have also been a visiting teacher where I visit different women in the congregation on a regular basis. Through this we become friends and serve one another with uplifting thoughts and helpful words.
